Well, I can't say I ever lied for sex. But otherwise your post is dead on.

The whole thing doesn't really become more reasonable when looked at from the perspective of Jewish law. If she had sex with a man to whom she was not married, by Jewish law she was defiled/violated whatever you want to call it, regardless of his race. (It kind of reminds me of a certain anecdote attributed to Winston Churchill).

Rape by deception is a ridiculous standard. Although to a Jewish woman this particular deception may have been particularly jarring, by the same standard a person could be convicted of rape by so much as fibbing about his or her age or not being completely honest about his or her line of work. It's only a short step to deceptions of omission also being classified as rape, like not mentioning children, past criminal convictions, or any other sort of details that may be a deal-breaker for some people.

It is odd certainly - who on Earth would agree to do that with someone on the basis of external reasons? Surely the decision would be made on the basis of the guy's charm and physical attractiveness rather than any claims he might have made.

a) Israeli laws are a jokes and kangaroos run the court when Arabs are involved.

b) An Arab looks very much like a Jew. A Jew looks very much like an Arab. In fact they're both Semitic people. Why can't they get just along.

Beyond thing: If there are some sane judge in the courts, they'll throw this conviction out. It only shows the apparent bias and (self) racism of Israeli courts. After the Gaza Flottila affair, can Isreal afford another blacked spot on its reputation?
