Hello,

Does anyone know if it makes a difference if I am with my fiancee when she goes through immigration at the port of entry? Can I get in the same line as her and present our passports together to the immigration office? Just wondering if it helps to be there or not......

You may be able to get in the same line and go through together. At least, I was able to do this.

Help what? it might help the person feel more relaxed but it doesnt make a difference really. POE is POE, all they do is hand papers over to the border people stand around and wait, take a picture, take some finger prints, sign some papers and then proceed to next flight or wherever they go next.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

Yes, it will probably be helpful to your fiancee as she will likely be confused and a little bit scared unless she has dealt with this before.

I went with my wife through POE. I was concerned about her finding the way etc. They ask me a few questions and then her. She kinda stared at him blankly. Her English is not good, so I translated into Thai for her. The guy got an attitude and said, "great, another one that doesn't speak English." He stamped her passport and told us to go to what I assume is the IV room.

My biggest concern was her finding her way. If the POE is your final destination than it's not so bad, but if you have to change planes and have luggage, you have to collect your luggage go through customs and recheck it, which can be somewhat complicated for someone that hasn't been through the process and has limited English.

It cost me $1100 for my R/T ticket, plus the time off from work, but I didn't want to risk it.

I'd say it depends on how much your SO has traveled internationally.

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Yes it makes absolutely no difference (on her ability to return providing she has the green card or AP equivalent thereof).

My wife travelled on AP and returned last Saturday. They asked her "where is your husband" and she thought they

meant where does he work and she gave my employer's name.

Then when she understood what they meant, she said "he is waiting to pick me up at the airport."

The first agent didn't have a clue what the AP document was but another one filled him in and everything was OK.

Gotcha. My wife's English is good and she didn't have any trouble at the POE, except that

they misspelled her Thai family name and the I-94 entry card had to be amended

at a later date (with no charge). My being there to accompany her may or may not have

prevented that. I could see the value of being there if her English skills were not good.

Thanks to everyone for your answers. Her English is very good and will have zero problems communicating. She's traveled internationally before a few times so she should be OK I think.
