Hi Everyone! Im a new member! How is everyone!? Im from Montreal,Canada, my name is Diana. My petitioner(fiancee) is from Ohio,U.S. We filed the I-129F form for the K-1 Fiancee Visa. He recieved the confirmation #. And now we are waiting. Im squeezing my brain to see if there is anything we can do to make the processing times easier and faster. I hope I dont have to wait 5 months. And I hope I get approved. Any advice? opinions? Anyways I miss him so much. He came visit me last month. I wish I knew many things I know now. And I wish people would have advised me and told me stuff like this. I could have already been married to him and live in the U.S. The goverment and costumer service. Border. Should learn to be nicer and give you info. Anyways I hope for the best. Im very optimistic. THank you for your patience and time. Let me know what you think. Any advice, opinions, answers ect. Thanks once again! I wish the best to all of you too and happiness! And congrats to whom there visa has been approved and to the others dont give up ur time will come.

The only way for it to be " faster " is for the US citizen to be active duty military and about to deploy to a combat zone. Other then that you have to wait out how ever long it takes for everything.

Keep yourself busy, go to work, hang out with friends. Pick up a new craft to do or a new hobby to do. Anything to keep you busy and keep your mind off things being slow. Plan another visit if you can aford/have the time to do so.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

No he doesnt need a visitor visa, he can just come for a visit. He needs a passport tho and must have one if he already visited you once before.

Yes you guys can visit each other during the process. If you were going to go visit him you need to have poof of ties to canada, basically things that prove you are coming back and not staying there. Like paper work from k1 visa process, a job you have to be back for, rent/utility bills, a return ticket. You dont need a visit visa either, you can just go visit him but you will need some of the proofs incase they try and stop you from going.

many of us traveled to the USA while the visa process was ongoing! Most dont have problems, but some do, and soem do get denied entry--which isnt a big deal as long as u told the truth!! Al boils down to the POE officer. Ensure one has proof of ties to canada to show that you will be returning. You will find many threads here in the cdn forum on visitng, lol Welcome to VJ

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi Diana and welcome to VJ!

I hate the be the bearer of bad news, but you will be waiting at least 5 months, probably closer to 8 - 10 months for your visa. Unless like Inky said, your fiance will be deployed soon.

Just to clear up something. You can't move to the USA with intent of getting married and stay. That's considered immigration fraud, so even if someone told you that before visiting, you'd be breaking the rules!

To pass the time spend time with your friends and family. It will be a long time before you can return once you've moved!

12/31/2009 - Marriage

07/21/2010 - AOS approved

08/04/2010 - Green Card received (and it's actually green!)

05/30/2012 - Sent ROC packet to VSC

06/08/2012 - Received NOA1 for ROC (Dated 06/04/2012)

Hi wow I didnt know that thx. Wow lol im learning so much. Of course they will probably give me a time period or whatever right? Should I just go to the airline and ask info there and if they say yes get the ticket there? just in case they deny me? why should they deny me? and what documents other then the usual should I have with me? bills? doctor appointment? what? the visa reciept #? thanks. where are the threads? thanks once again! :)

The airline has nothing to do with denying you. Its the border patrol that will deny you and you cant ask them anything untill you go through customs. The airline will say sure of course you can go. Just so they can sell you a non refunable ticket.

Just buy your ticket as one normally does! online, on phone, etc! Airlines are not going to stop ya, its the US customs Poe (port of entry) officer!! If ya look below in my signature, you see my advice. Soem good ties to Canada are letter from an employer stating your expected back to work on such a date, apartment lease, return airfare ticket! But it al boils down to the POE officer. One can have the worlds best proof that ur returning to Canada and they can still deny you entry! I traveled monthly to DC and never had a problem, nor was I that concerned about it! Just have a plan in case you do get denied entry! They may or may not put a deadline when you have to return to canada, never happened to me, but has happened to others.

Yes - by doing the K1 you're doing the right thing and immigrating legally - absolutely! Once you move here and marry, you will apply for EAD (Employment authorization document) which will allow you to work here - it's part of applying for the Greencard.....but we're getting ahead of ourselves for now.

And about the waiting times. Ummmm maybe not. im optimistic. if you're not that cool. i dont need negativity in my life thank you.

Sadly - the wait times are what they are....you can take a look at people who are doing K1's and can estimate what your own timelines might be. You're going through the Montreal consulate and yes, they are the slower of the 2 (Vancouver and Montreal), I don't think anyone is trying to be negative, but the reality is what it is. All of us probably got a dose of reality while waiting for this process to complete (my timeline was 2 years ago, so probablya little out of date).

Think positively, never hurts.....but there's not a whole lot which can be done to hurry up the process. We're here in the Cdn forum to help support though, lots of esperience with just about every situation you could possibly imagine and every question you can think of.

Good luck!

Wiz(USC) and Udella(Cdn & USC!)

Udella is right. It's not about negativity, it's about understanding the reality. I suggest you look at recent timelines for K-1 Canadians going through the Montreal consulate. Talking with people from other countries and consulates isn't going to help. There are plenty of places around the world where a 5 month time frame is reasonable, but not in Montreal. The wait for the interview alone can be almost 5 months.

I apologize, I didn't mean to be negative, I was just stating the facts.

Also, what I meant was before you started the K-1 process you couldn't just move and get married. You are doing the right thing and getting a visa.

You won't find many people here that will be negative. Please don't take it that way.
