I wanted to inquire with anyone who knows what the normal NVC processing time should be. By normal I mean taking the process as-is without doing any type of NVC shortcut. This means you will wait for the NVC to contact you with a barcoded coversheet or other request for payment each step of the way.

I know this is a strange question to ask as many of us want to save time - but I have a reason behind my question.

In any event, what would be the general case for processing time from the NVC if no shortcuts are used?

There R NO SHORTCUTS so to speak. They(NVC)will keep petition as long as needed, could be a few days could be a month could be longer. Don't ask me why some are held and some are not. It's Government. No formula to predict the outcome

For family/spousal-based visas, with an I-130 petition in play -

Uhm - it's about '3 months per thing' - my assumption being yer 'going postal' with no other electronic notification or payments.

Casefile arrive at NVC? Wait about 3 months, do nothing - and magically a DS-3032 will show up to your postal address and the foreign beneficiary's address.

In that first 3 months, might also receive an AOS fee bill statement with a barcode on it, to the petitioner's postal mail address.

Send something in via postal mail? Still do nothing but wait? Another 3 months passes, NVC sends out the DS-230 to the address listed in the DS-3032 for the Agent, or to the beneficiary's address (depending)

You have 1 year to process things at NVC, once NVC assigns a number to the casefile.

Some ppl have a reason or need to 'go slow' at NVC - schooling, work, etc..

If you get 'speedy delivery' from NVC to yer addresses, then still wish to go slow, DELAY sending back any forms to NVC. Remember - you've got 1 year to wrap it up.

Yer prolly referring to I-129F petitions for K-1 visas, ya ? 'Fast turn-around' for those types occur because is no hold up on namechecks. Have a read? http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/SecurityNameChecksAndAdministrativeReview.html
