Hello All.

I know this question has been asked one too many but I can't seem to get a good grasp of the actual way to complete this task.

Scenario:

1) NVC forwards your case to Lagos. (typical wait time before any response is 4- 5 months)

2) To be proactive, you download the package 3 from the website prior to any feedback from the Lagos embassy

(Do you have to wait to hear from them to send the package to them?)

(Is it even possible or wise to go for the police report and medical prior to hearing from the embassy?)

(Where do you send the package if they have not initiated contact with you?)

(If you contact them by email to have them send you package 3 and 4 by email is it faster?)

(Do they even do that?)

3) After sending in package 3

(How long does it take before package 4 comes along?)

(Will the email request to get the package 4 by email work?)

4) After receiving Package 4 and completing it.

(Is it best to walk it to them or mail it to them?)

Sorry for to boat load of questions but I would like to understand a little better how the Lagos embassy works. I am sure if any of the veterans answer this question several newbies can use this post as a guide to life after the NVC.

Thanks for the answers Naijabound - quick follow up:

1) Do you have to wait to hear from them to send the package to them?)

Packet "3" is on the website to download. The forms are taken back to the embassy on the day of the interview.

I have already downloaded the files. However, I have not heard from the Lagos embassy yet since I got the notification from the NVC that my package arrived on 6/29/10.

So, I want to be sure if I have to wait 4 - 5 months before expecting to get an email with the interview date. Then after I get the email 4 - 5 months from now, take the package to the embassy or can speed things up by downloading the files and walking to the embassy for an interview date before I hear from them?

2)Is it even possible or wise to go for the police report and medical prior to hearing from the embassy?) You have to have the email showing the interview date to get the police report and do the medical.

OK, Thanks

3) Where do you send the package if they have not initiated contact with you?

4) If you contact the Lagos Embassy by email to have them send you package 3 and 4 by email is it faster? Do they even do that?

That is the only way they do it for Lagos. You get a email with your interview date and there will be an attachment to download packet "3" forms.

5)How long does it take before package 4 comes along?

When my fiance was going through the process, our package arrived in Lagos around the end of June 2009. I got an email from the Embassy on 7-31-09 informing us of the interview date, which was in Sept 09. The procedure changed at the embassy eff 7-1-09, you cant do walk ins anymore to get a interview date. You have to download the forms from the website and take them back with you to the interview. Otherwise, they wont let your fiance in.

Based on Naijabounds answer: yes you have to wait to be contacted before proceeding with package 3

Anyone else going through the process now or just went through it recently who has the same understanding for the questions above?

Naijabound is correct in all that she said. The bottom line here is this: you MUST wait to hear from the Embassy regarding an interview date before you send them anything. You can complete your packet 3 that you downloaded but they have to initiate the process with an interview date. What you CAN do is email them (lagosiv@state.giv) - if you haven't already done so - and request status on your case (provide your case # in the subject line and you and your fiance's names and dates of birth in the email along with your inquiry).

Just wanted to feedback that after emailing them, I did get an interview date. Apparently the cost is now up from $131 to $350! Since its months away we've decided we would wait 2 months to the date of the interview to get the police records and the medical examination.

Do we still have to resend a reaffirmation record?

If you are lacking immunizations you may want to start the medical with enough time to allow for the whole shot series. Not completing them doesn't stop you from coming but then you have to pay to finish them here which is usually more expensive as they are included in the cost of the medical there.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

We picked up the immunization yellow card. Is there any thing else we are missing? or immunization record sheet we need to be following?

My NVC letter stated a date range from July - October 2010, but the interview date is past that time. Do I have to write a reaffirmation letter telling them I'm still intrested in moving forward? I dont think so but I'll like to make sure

What kind of visa are you applying for? It would be helpful if you created a timeline on VJ. People would be able to assist you with more accurate information regarding your particular case.

Some of the shots require a series of shots spaced weeks apart. I know Joseph didn't have ANY when he started so it took a while to get the full series done. You don't need to do anything because the consulate schedules past the expiration date.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look for the latest immunization shot requirement.

Sorry I'm going to ask this again, but they asked us to download forms from the website, but said nothing about the check-list being sent back to them or anything like a package 4, assuming package 3 was the email.

Is that typical?
