DCF filing in Turkey

I need some help. We are going to do the DCF in Ankara, Turkey and I have a really good question. I read on the instructions on the website for filing in Ankara as follows regarding the Divorce Decree/Certificate: "If you were married previously, provide a copy of the divorce decree or death certificate to prove the dissolution of each prior marriage. You will be requested to submit the original of this document at the time of your interview. If the divorce took place in a country other than Turkey or US, a certified English translation of the foreign divorce decree is also required. For divorces that took place in the U.S. or Turkey, the court-certified original divorce decrees must either have the raised seal or rubber stamps of the court and original signatures"

Okay.... I have read on VJ some conflicting info such as one can order a certified copy of a Divorce Certificate thru www.vitalrecords.com from the state that I was divorced in. I believe that a DECREE and a CERTIFICATE are 2 different things right? I have the papers from my divorce and they state JUDGEMENT AND DECREE OF DIVORCE... BUT they do not have a rubber stamp or a raised seal and given that we are here in Turkey, its not as easy as me running to the Bureau of Vital Statistics or the Court House where the divorce was filed at.... (Darn HUH) Anyway.... I just need some help and I have done my homework and researched looking for a way that I can get my hands on what is needed when we send in our I-130. Does anyone know if a DIVORCE CERTIFICATE rather than a DIVORCE DECREE will work in Ankara... as I do not want any surprises such as an RFE for such a simple document.... I apologize if I sound a little frazzled... and many thanks in advance!!!!

I think it means the same thing. Didn't want to read and run, but let me check mine and see what it says. I remember thinking over this very question myself back then, but came to the conclusion (don't remember how) that they are the same. I know they definitely want the "raised seal" version in it's original (take with you, but send a copy of this-it's what I did as originals are $20!) BRB

Mine is a "certified copy" of the divorce decree and is stamped as such. I got a copy of this just for the embassy in case it was different from what I already had on hand originally from the courts and it is the SAME thing. Certificate and decree are the same thing, although "decree" is the correct and official wording of this document. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your help! Where did you get a copy of the certified Divorce Decree? I am not sure if the Court where my divorce was filed would provide an actual copy of a certified decree to my Sister since I am here in Turkey. If I can use a Cerified copy of the Divorce Certificate that can be ordered online thru VITACHECK... then that will be OK. Like I said earlier, I want to be sure that they are one in the same and Ankara won't throw a fit and deny it! If anyone else has any experience or knowledge of this please share the wealth.... :help:

I honestly don't think there is a difference between a certificate and decree per se, but I don't know how you could get a copy while being in Turkey. Yikes. That website you mentioned, I am not familiar with it. Anyone else can offer some help?

Oh and I got the copy from the courthouse records dept of course...I still live in the same city as my divorce.

You do need to send a certified copy of your divorce degree.

You can order a certified copy of your divorce degree from the Bureau of Vital statistics over the phone or on their website and they will mail it to you. You will have to pay a rush fee service and also an express shipping fees if you made an urgent request.Just search for their website and customer service is available for your order at any time 7 days a week.
