Sad story

Thank you for your support! Does anyone know how long USCIS normally keeps a file open for? I mean can she ask them to re-schedule her interview for spring 2011 when she will be eligible to apply under a 5-year rule? Will they process the same application, or is it better to re-apply/make a fresh application next year? Obviously, if her file can be kept open/active by USCIS until she is eligible, it would be quite silly to loose the processing fees. We've read somewhere that if you miss your interview, USCIS will keep your file open for 12 months. If you don't contact them within 12 months of the original interview date, your case is considered permanently abandoned. Is that right? Thank you.

This question sorta lends itself to the concept of 'no infopass made and/or attended yet'.

Seriously.

If you are helping her, then get the infopass appointment made , get HER to the infopass appointment, suss out all, at the infopass appointment.

Why not take her to an infopass apppointment? She is your friend, yes? I know if my wife had this issue (with me being dead), a friend of mine or hers would handle all whilst she's grieving.

Look, you posted here on the 19th of July - and haven't done anything but ask more questions (here). Since then, she's missed an interview for her citizenship with no feedback to the USCIS on her behalf or yours. Not cool, man.

What's stopping you from making the infopass appointment?

What's stopping you from taking her to the infopass appointment?

Whatever 'is stopping you', please overcome it, today ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

She has her appointment booked for the end of next week, we are just trying to gather as much information as possible before she goes there as USCIS officers may be useless in such circumstances. It's not a straightforward situation. I personally doubt very much that an InfoPass will help. Whatever they say at the time of her appointment won't necessarily be recorded properly in their system. It's like another post that I have found on the internet. Woman's husband died and she called USCIS so-called help line (800 number) to find out whether she was eligible to apply for naturalization under a 3-year rule. They said she was when in fact she wasn't. Her application was denied.

'eligible to apply' and 'missed citizenship appointment'

are not the same things, at all. I do hope you 'see that', yes?
