What happens to me all the time is people asking me if I'm german because of my accent. I was never asked if I was from Mexico or any place that speaks spanish (since I figured even tho we don't speak spanish our accent is somewhat similar), but no, always Germany, dunno why. Then I say Brazil and some people ask "'hablas espanol'' I think there is only this guy working for the Red Cross, I was there a few days ago and he asked me where I was from and I said Brazil and he was the only person ever to ask ''you speak portuguese, right''. And he looked like a very simple person. I work with so many people in high positions, probably had a high education, and I'm amazed nobody has a clue about that.

I don't think I've ever had anyone telling me I don't look brazilian, but that would probably piss me off.

nossa, achei que no Brasil so tinha negro !

 This cracked me up.

Guys, you are forgetting the president of the United States, who asked if they had black people in Brazil, when he was in Brazil, remember?

Oh also we were over at my friend's parents' house, and after we left, my friend's dad asked her why Rey dyes his hair so red. OMFG! But they are from North Dakota and also kind of stupid. :P

  Why Rey dyes his hair? :P

Oh, I forgot to mention, this girl was in her second year of studying spanish, and yet, she thought NO country could actually use a language other than English. Wow, English native countries are just blessed. People get to understand each other!

I heard other stuff while I was there. For one, I left my sneakers behind 'cus everyone knows nikes are cheaper in US, so since I knew I'd end up buying some I just took with me sandals and other types of shoes, and decided to just get some nikes in AZ. So when on the first week I had to ask for my host family to drive me to a store, 'cus I needed them asap (for gym class in high school). They were showing me shoes in the store like I had never seen them, explaining and stuff. At some point I realized what they were doing and had to tell them "listen, I have nikes back home, I just didn't bring any".

The grandmother of the family saw me watching a movie during X-mas when she was visiting, and she stopped at my side and was like "how do you like the TV?", and I was like "Ah, I've seen this one". She was like "Oh, you have TV like this in Brazil? With movies and stuff?". Argh ...

It's especially funny cuz, as you can see in our profile picture, Rey's skin is like translucently white. The idea of him with DARK hair is silly... now that would look dyed...

Dont they???

I mean, I see monkeys all over SP all the time... It is kind of a pain in the ### to deal with all those freaking monkeys...

And the aligators in the streets are just plain impolite....
