Good morning people!!

My story:

09/23/2002 - Met Chris online, there was something very special about this guy =0)

07/16/2006 - We got married in Reno, Nevada.

USCIS:

08/13/2006 - Filed for AOS, AP, EAD - they were VERY carefully packaged with a detailed cover sheet on top of each of the forms, just as VJ's instructions recommend. It was A LOT of work, but it did pay off! (we firmly believe this is what sped up our process big time)

08/31/2006 - Biometrics appointment

09/09/2006 - Received my AOS appointment date!

10/26/2006 - EAD touched and AP APPROVED!

10/27/2006 - AOS appointment at 7:30 AM! APPROVED IN EXACTLY 70 DAYS!!!

11/01/2006 - EAD approved

11/02/2006 - Email notification - greencard will be mailed as soon as it is ready! YAY again!

11/02/2006 - Welcome to the United States of America letter in the mail! Almost there! =)

Alex, I wanted to ask you about the post you made in that guy's missing filipina wife thread. I didn't quite get your meaning. I figured it was sarcastic, but still, I got lost in the arguement.

ah Entendi Vanessa.

Alex, I wanted to ask you about the post you made in that guy's missing filipina wife thread. I didn't quite get your meaning. I figured it was sarcastic, but still, I got lost in the arguement.

Oh, he said "this is not characteristic of a Filipina," which sounds like "well, that behavior is not characteristic of Basset Hounds, but a Dachshund does that all the time." He made it sound like all Filipinas do the same things because they're all basically the same. I get so frustrated when men who have wives (usually men with wives from high-fraud posts) say things like "oh Russian women are high-strung" or "Filipina women are all very gentle" as if they don't have individual personalities and generalizations like that can be made. I cannot think of one generalization I could make about American women, or Brazilian women, that would hold true for all, or even most, women from either of those countries. I would imagine that Filipina women have their own personalities too! So Lisa questioned it and I responded with a sarcastic comment because it really angers me to see women talked about like that by the men that are supposed to know them and love them!

I know this is not my question :P but I think it's not possible for this to be true because somehow, Laura will use her degree. Either directly (moving back to Brazil and starting to practice law) or indirectly (her way of thinking will always be shaped by the way she learned to think in a law course) or between directly and indirectly (it will help her gain entry to a graduate program in her field or another one). Especially because in the US her degree is just as good as an economics degree or history degree or anything else that isn't practical but can help you go on to a get a good third degree, even though in Brazil it would have been practical. :)

I'm not saying that she's never gonna use it, but there is a possibility that she won't, even though it's a tiny possibility. I also believe that using or not using it, it's knowledge you have. I don't regret at all my years of college, I learned a lot, most of it I won't use as a professional, but still, I don't regret one bit.

I just read that filipina thread, and oh man, do you think he has another girl from the Philippines he wants to bring or from another country? He sure seemed very interested in knowing about bringing another person here and not hurt at all about his wife leaving him.

Nessa, if I could change something in the past, I would say two things happened that I wish I had done differently. The first one was the fact that I got into Cândido Mendes, for Law, and got into UFRJ and PUC, for Psychology. Back then, 18 years old and proud, didn't want daddy paying for my studies (my dad is the type to throw things on our faces, so back then I had some grudges and wanted to get away from having him telling me he was paying for my college for the next 5 years), so I refused his idea of attending Law School at night and Psychology during the day for a semester, deciding which one I liked better, and then "trancar" the one I didn't want to pursue. I went to UFRJ, since it was public.

I stayed for 5 semesters, meaning, half of the course, until I was too frustrated with the crappy public university system, and that passed on to a frustration of the course itself. So I gulped down my pride and told my dad I wanted to start over and go to law school. This has always been his dream (mom and dad are doctors, but dad always wanted a lawyer in the family) so he was happy when I told him that, and so I took another vestibular and got into a private college.

So my first change would be having taken dad's offer the first time around and taken both courses for a semester to see where I'd adapt better. The second would be having actually finished pyschology (I actually did my 5th semester at UFRJ while I was doing my 1st law school semester), since these days 2 degrees are so much better than having only one, and especially now it'd have been just great having a degree that's universal.

But I don't like to spend life regretting things, or else I might say I should have gone to medical school to begin with, since I actually do love that area as well.

Having said all that, would I do it differently if I knew I'd marry and move to Puerto Rico? Not for that reason, at all.

I'm not complaining of things I chose, really, I am just pointing out how it may seem harder for me to find a career here than for you guys, more 'cus of my lack of experience, and less 'cus of having a law degree (especially since we do have a brazileiritcha who was also a law major in Brazil and found a career in US).

Alex, I totally get you, people here always tend to frown upon certain stories simply 'cus of the country, and some people get offended if a story goes bad concerning someone from their spouse's country.
