You Know You're Brazilian When...

1. You didn't know anything about bills until you came to the US. = Nah, since I was a teen I was the bank errand girl, grocerie shopping girl, and I've always known the cost of life and everything.

2. You still wear speedos to the beach or pool! = Doesn't apply to girls.

3. You like Guarana better than Coke. = I love Guaraná, but I also love Coke. I'll drink whichever I'm in the mood for, IF they are diet.

4. If someone tells you to be at a certain place at 1:00 pm, you don't show up until 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. = I'm punctual to the point of thinking that if you say 1:00 pm, you really mean I'm supposed to be there by 12:50 pm, so I get there at 12:40 pm just to be sure. Also, if I say 1:00 pm and the person arrives at 1:01 pm I'm already getting pissed 'cus the person is late (the few times I've been late in my life it was for an external issue like an accident causing a not predictable jam, or me depending on a friend to give me a ride and this friend being late, which, btw, I HATE).

5. You know who Xuxa and Pele are. = Even foreigners know who Pelé is.

6. Your entire family goes to grandma's house on Sundays for a big family get together....even when you guys see each other everyday. = Not true in my family.

7. You can name at least 30 novelas and 10000 actors/actresses. = Hmmmm, I used to watch a lot of novelas as a kid and a teen, but then I grew out of Globo once I got my hands on cable. I know MANY actors and actresses's names from Hollywood.

8. BBQ means steak, sausage, chicken wings, pork, rice, farofa, molho and beer. = aiaiai, I miss farofa, I miss picanha, and I miss the true smell of BBQ.

9. You are the loudest person in the room. = I can be loud or invisible depending on the situation.

10. You got a Brazilian flag hanging from your car's rearview mirror. = Nope.

11. You travel to Brazil and instead of taking a suitcase with all your stuff, you take presents for the entire family, the dog, the neighbor, not to mention the old/used clothes that you take just in case someone needs it. = I try, when the money allows, but I totally get this brazilian habit.

12. You live in Florida, New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts. = Puerto Rico baby!

13. You leave your house spotless when you have people coming over. = Oh yeah!

14. An ideal woman is a woman with small breasts and a big butt. = and add that they're big and toned, not big and floppy. Too bad I'm not one of those ideal women. I do have the big butt, and everything else big as well. :P

15. You understand & speak Spanish, but when you say a word in Portuguese no one understands you. = Now I only need to learn puerto rican spanish, which is almost completely different than spanish.

16. You can dance. = I can dance in clubs, but I don't do duets.

17. Your jokes are always about Portuguese people. - or Lula.

18. You take soccer too seriously. = I'm a woman, so that's only true during the World Cup.

19. You go to a birthday party, and you can't leave until you take that piece of cake home. = If the person is intimate it's almost offending to walk away without it, hell, we manage to take wedding cake home as well, and bolo salgado, and salgadinhos, and brigadeiro and the center pieces if they're not attached to the table.

20. You know what Capoeira is. = Yep, never tried it though.

21. You know a lot about Samba and Pagode. = at least I can sing a bunch of them and dance to it, although I actually don't like carnaval.

22. You`ve studied the history of almost every country. = and never understood how could a country do any different.

23. You eat rice and beans at least 7 days a week. = True for rice, not true for beans. PS. Nessa, rice isn't AS caloric as you'd think, make it simple, without refogar com óleo e cebola, and it has about 80 calories for two full tablespoons.

24. Your breakfast consists of milk and coffee, bread with butter, and a piece of cake. = Actually, when I'm not dieting it's more like french bread and butter, and milk with Nescau. When on diet it's a corpus and a couple of cream crackers with black coffee.

25. Everyone thinks you're everything but Brazilian. = True.

26. You know who Os Trapalhoes, Turma da Monica, Zico, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Ronaldinho, Jo Soares, Cazuza, Gilberto Gil, Silvio Santos, Roberto Carlos, Ayrton Senna, amd Carmem Miranda are. = but of course!

27. You go to a bar and ask for salgadinhos with guarana. = Nata (italiano, carteira, enrolado de queijo e presunto, ou qualquer que seja o nome da nata nas outras cidades) and either a guaraná natural or a natural juice.

28. You are so used to corruption that nothing surprises you anymore. = I get surprised at how other countries make a fuss over a "small" corruption deal.

29. You know how to play dominoes and cards. = Vai Sueca!!! My dad plays truco weekely (religiously) but somehow I never managed to learn.

30. You dont care about race or color. And once you come to the US, you realize what racism means. = Very true, and if we ever think of racism in Brazil, we think black vs. white, and we come here and realize racism is white american vs. everything else.

31. You have a sense of fashion. = I like to think so, although I don't put it much to use since I never shop 'cus I'm always on my "lose weight before buying new clothes" plan.

32. You wear slippers..a lot! = Havaianas all the way and all day.

33. You know how to play volleyball and handball. = I suck at volleyball, and now I probably suck at handball as well but I used to play handball with the school team.

34. You always taking pictures everywhere you go. = If my camera was still working.

35. You know what it's like to buy liquor without an ID. = Ever since I can spell B-E-E-R.

36. You know how to party, and if the party isnt over after 5am...its not a party! = Not anymore, but I used to!

37. Any holiday...being it official or not, is an excuse to stay home from work and take a week vacation. Oh yeah, but then again puerto ricans are the same.

38. You know what feijoada and pave are. = Absolutely!

39. Your favorite drink is Caipirinha. = Not really, my favorite drink is Kir Royale, but I like caipivodka.

40. You dress up to go to the supermarket. = Nah, but I don't dare going in havaianas and stay home clothes, but I don't wear makeup and jewelery for it either.

41. You spend an entire day at the beach. = When on vacation, yes. When just back home in the mountains, it's the pool all day and the condo's community spa at night!

42. You are too friendly. = I'm not too friendly, but I am too nice and have to be careful not to be trampled on.

43. You're proud to be Brazilian = HELL YEAH!

Rey and Alex, am I crazy or are you two NOT together? You always sound like you're still living thousands of miles appart.
