If someone can help me, and correct me if I'm wrong, here are my doubts:

Município - County? or City?

Comarca - City? or Judicial District?

Escrivão de Juiz de Paz - Justice of Peace Notary?

Oficial do Cartório do Registro Civil, Títulos e Documentos - Official Of The Notary's Office Of The Civil Registry, Titles And Documents?

Oficial maior - I know it isn't bigger official  , anyone know?

Foi declarante o pai - was declarant the father? or was declared?

Serviram de testemunha - had served as witnesses? or can I start the sentence ''served as witnesses''?

and then they mispelled a name and type the word digo like this: ''maria da silv, digo, maria da silva'' how is digo in english? Do I put ''correcting'' between the , , where is digo?

my bad.......apparently it's not federal but federative, according to the cia world fact book:

conventional long form: Federative Republic of Brazil

conventional short form: Brazil

local long form: Republica Federativa do Brasil

local short form: Brasil

i didn't get it either until i read it yesterday and realized it was typed on a typewriter and either corrections can't be made to it with white out or none was available. :P

so when one makes a spelling error they'd type "correcting" and then put the proper spelling of the word, which in this case was someone's last name.

eta: what's with vj changing my font size?

Yeah I know, that's so weird. Typewriters, sheesh. I think it should say "suso, correction, susan" instead of "correcting" because I think it makes more sense to an english ear.

It's because it's an official document and you can't white out, otherwise people would do that and modify their BC all the time, at home, or whenever they felt like, so when they're typing it the first time and they make a mistake they have to correct that way - , digo, - got it? ;)
