It just seems to be a vicious cycle in the US of the liberals playing a dirty game of 'I'll do anything to screw George W and the republicans', instead of being united on the security of their F'''n lives...

So you think that liberals' opinions on national security are formed solely by the desire to spite GW and Republicans??

Duh.

Bollocks

:ot: I watched V for Vendetta last night for the first time! Wow! Now I'm interested in finding copies of the comic. The author seems like a really interesting individual.

...the central question is, is this guy right? Or is he mad? What do you, the reader, think about this? Which struck me as a properly anarchist solution. I didn't want to tell people what to think, I just wanted to tell people to think, and consider some of these admittedly extreme little elements, which nevertheless do recur fairly regularly throughout human history. - Alan Moore

Alanmoore.jpg

Alan Moore purportedly wasn't very happy with V For Vendetta, though it was clearly the best adaptation of his work to date (all of the others have been spectacularly terrible). Here's Moore's criticism from Wikipedia:

After reading the script, Moore remarked that his comic had been "turned into a Bush-era parable by people too timid to set a political satire in their own country.... [This film] is a thwarted and frustrated and largely impotent American liberal fantasy of someone with American liberal values standing up against a state run by neoconservatives — which is not what [the comic] 'V for Vendetta' was about. It was about fascism, it was about anarchy, it was about [England]." He later adds that if the Wachowskis had wanted to protest what was going on in America, then they should have used a political narrative that spoke directly at America's issues, similar to what Moore had done before with Britain.[10] The film changes the original message by arguably having changed "V" into a freedom fighter instead of an anarchist. An interview with producer Joel Silver[11] suggests that the change may not have been conscious; he identifies the V of the graphic novel as a clear-cut "superhero...a masked avenger who pretty much saves the world," a simplification that goes against Moore's own statements about V's role in the story.

He has a point - the character of V in the graphic novel is much more morally ambiguous than appears in the movie. Really makes you think.

Um, more like

  • Hillary Clinton
  • Robert Byrd (good ol' KKK member)
  • Joe Biden
  • Barbara Boxer
  • Ted Kennedy
  • ####### Durban
  • John Kerry (oh wait, he never shows up to work...)
  • Chuck Schumer

But also, yes, hollyweird.

But you can't seem to explain why - other than that somehow they broadly represent some sort ideological plot to 'rubbish' america and throw away its founding values - which you also can't seem to qualify - except to say that "celebrities are annoying". How profound.

Thanks, I was wondering the same. Could some please explain to me what exactly "liberals" did to single-handedly ruin America? I hate to be repetitive, but I would like a convincing answer.

As to the new list (assuming it contains a hint to the answer), how did these people manage to destroy the country in particular? Are you suggesting that the destruction only took place in the last two decades? And how could they yield such a power, considering that Republicans have been the stronger party for most of this time?

perhaps this website explains how liberals have destroyed the country. although I do admit that is a very left-wing website. but it seems all true to me. perhaps some of our bushbots can explain how none of it is true...

Maybe they will challenge that those ideas themselves were liberal?

Maybe they will suggest giving women the vote wasn't the greatest idea after all?

That's why I prefer the term "progressive." These things were PROGRESS, something conservatives are usually against until they generally accept it 50 years later.

The question is - why WOULDN'T I dislike liberals? (esp. those in the gov't) They believe in everything I loathe - high taxes, taking all my hard-earned money and giving it to the poor; abortion; gay marriage; they're usually anti-God; etc etc. Soooooo...what's there to like? Don't you liberals hate what I, as a hardcore conservative Christian, believe in? Aren't you annoyed that I'm against gay marriage and abortion? Aren't you annoyed that I don't want my taxes going to the poor? Aren't you just a TEENSY bit irritated that I don't my kids in public school because it's secular?

If you've answered no, you're a big fat liar.

I think 9/11 played a big role in accelerating something that has been going on in the US for decades. Partisan populism has always been a big problem in the US and obscures a lot of issues. It's the us and them attitude I object to. The Liberal/Conservative split is little more than Republican Vs Conservative - neither of whom necessarily really represent the values traditionally associated with either Liberalism or Conservatism (dismissing any other political standpoint of which there are many).

Election campaigns were taken over long ago by clever marketers who deceive the public by offering candidates that appear to represent their values (but really don't), and people are persuaded (bizarrely) to vote for a personality or a party against their own interests - both economic and social.

they're usually anti-God

Liberals are Satanists.

lol.. incanada.. i think anti-God is too broad.. I'd say they just want to keep religion personal intead of making it public... I don't think all liberals are atheists or don't go to Church.. nor I believe all Republicans think gravity is thanks to God, or that earth is the center of the Universe...

and.. I can say I don't hate people who are anti-gay or anti-abortion.. actually I think abortion should be discussed only by women, it's not men business.. but I just think religion in a democracy becomes a regime.. and I don't think noone wants another holy inquisition, or Salem witch-burning (yes, not only catholics are guilty of killing innocent people).. and who says those mistakes cannot be repeaten, THAT person, is lying indeed..

so.. the theory behind liberal-hate. is that Americans are so dumb, that if they listen to rap music everybody will dress like a G and will start shooting everybody and saying 'ho' instead of girl? Or that school will start saying 'The bible is a lie, don't read it'? or that just because you touch a gay person u will automatically become gay? I think people have more common sense to believe those things..

mhh on the other hand. first example that comes to mind.. just when anti-segregationist laws were gonna be abolished for the first time.. Republican Strom Thurmond.. longest filibuster ever (24h).. and.. no civil rights and no end of segregation.. mhh. very good for America I suppose

Uh, no. Why would anyone hate you for that? I disagree with you but I have no problem with your worldview as such.

I think you're hitting the nail on the head. The problem seems to be that some conservatives hate liberals because they're afraid of change and difference, but that most liberals don't hate conservatives because there's no point in hating people for having differing opinions.

Rap music does not cause civil unrest or threatens social values anymore than rock'n roll even though some people in the '50s were terribly afraid that America's youth would be corrupted and convert to communism after listening to Elvis. Schools will never condemn the bible as a lie because it has a lot to say about the world we live in. Gays have always been around and that wasn't a problem until about 100 years ago when people suddenly found sex disgusting and decided to define norms of sexuality. Strom Thurmond is just a different case altogether; he actually used to be a Democrat until Truman decided to desegregate the military (the same goes for a bunch of other Dixiecrats which found a new home in the Republican party, joining a bunch of rich guys mostly concerned about keeping taxes low and government small).
