Aren't some of those new phone verizon offer just as good,if not better than the Iphone?? I'm no cell phone junky, i'm just happy my phone has a keyboard, lol. Few of my co-workers have those new droid ones and they seem cool

yes - we have a Motorolla Droid and a Droid Eris...I like 3 G, quite fast...if I could have an iPhone though, I wouldn't have to carry my ipod too. I need to consolidate devices!

John and I just got iPhones (I got the 4 and he the 3GS) with the Family Talk Nation with Canada.

We have Vonage for home use, but we travel and are out so much that with our old Sprint plan, I couldn't phone my parents or family without paying 45cents a minute. When my mom had her double lung transplant in April, I was using my phone A LOT at work, and racked up quite a cell phone bill.

Plus, we were month to month with Sprint, and John's phone was so old, we technically had a family plan, but I was the only one using it :bonk:

And with Sprint, as soon as we crossed the border, I didn't have a cell phone anymore. I didn't pick up on a 'friendly' carrier. With AT&T I won't have to worry about that, and won't have to pay roaming fees when I travel up there.

I've been quite happy so far with it. It's more expensive than our old plan (have to have the data plan with an iPhone), but John gets a 17% discount with AT&T through his work, where we only got 12% with Sprint.

Just a tip too...ask your cell phone provider whether they have discounts for certain things! It's not just work related, they also have them for military, credit union memberships, etc

We had AT&T a few yrs ago and now on Verizon! I find we have far less dropped calls now and we had horrible connection in the (DC)Metro's on AT&T but fine with Verizon.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My husband got the Droid due to his work commitments. He is very happy with it.

We had so many dropped calls with AT&T when we moved to NoVA that my husband cancelled it and signed up with Verizon. Works great now.

AT&T worked fine in FL..... just not in NoVA.

My fiance is with Verizon and has the Canada plan. It's the regular cost to call Canada but he still pays roaming if he's here... it's main fault is that texting (send or receive) Canada costs extra, which sucks because I love to text. Whats weird is last year calling Canada was at a discount and texting was free but they no longer offer free texting to Canada, just calls. He was debating switching to AT&T but we weren't sure how reliable the network would be. When at home we just use Skype, the phone is good for when you're not at home obviously. ALSO- if you have an iPhone you can download the Skype option and call anywhere through your iPhone and not use your minutes because it's internet calling and not phone calling.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

Naaah, it's okay. It wouldn't have mattered anyways. I left for Canada back in April, haha. Thank you anyways, though. (I seriously cannot wait to upgrade my phone in September though...hahah)

Our plan doesn't charge roaming.

Ours either... and texting to and from Canada doesn't cost us any extra. Unless that's a new thing that I haven't noticed yet. I have a bad habit of not reading the bill.

I'm pretty sure texting isn't extra on our plan, either. (We obviously have the same bad habit. )

I always thought we did pay for texting in Canada but I just checked the bill that came in today and we don't! :)

Unfortunatley the roaming charges are still there. :(

I'm so glad this topic was brought up. I'm wanting to get a cell phone in the next couple of months (still can't afford it right now... even those 'deal' prices, almost make me lose my breakfast).

I'm still unclear though. Verizon, or AT&T? lol What about Sprint?

I am going to be using my phone primarily for calling the hubby if need be, or calling and especially texting to Canada. I like the Skype to Go thing. I'll definitely look into that. But, you guys are saying texting to Canada does not cost extra?

(btw, the roaming thing is no big deal for us, since we're so far away we can only visit once a year at most :( so won't be crossing the border much)

Oh, also p.s. does anyone have experience with Virgin Mobile down here? just curious
