I have a K-1 fiance visa application in process for my fiance in Ukraine. My I-129F was recently forwarded to the Ukraine embassy. They would have received it this week via DHL. Today (Friday) my fiance received a call from the embassy. They told her they would call her back in 10 to 15 weeks to schedule her interview in Kiev. And they said she could go to a doctor in Odessa for her medical appointment.

But on the phone they made no mention of "packet 3" or "packet 4" or any mailings at all to her.

Another thing that was mentioned is that sometimes fiance visa beneficiaries have to go in for more than one interview in Kiev, and that in general the fiance visa process was "difficult."

All this seems strange for several reasons. I have seen good reviews about the Ukraine fiance visa process elsewhere on this site.

I thought the embassy was supposed to send out the information packet or packets, rather than just to do a phone call.

Is it normal to say to the fiance "we will call you in 10 to 15 weeks and only then can you schedule an interview?"

And, what about the medical? My fiance received no specific information about exactly where she needed to go, although general mention was made about her being able to go to doctors in her town. And there was supposedly no mention from the embassy about what she should do at the doctors office or how much she might have to pay to the doctor.

On Sunday night or Monday early in the morning I plan to phone the $12 per 10 minute line (1-888-826-2340) the embassy has set up to see if I can get some answers.

There's nothing unusual about my application and it was approved by the USCIS and the National Visa Center.

Yeah, this sounds very strange.

I just finished the process at the Consulate and I made the appointment by calling the number. Pay them and call them on Monday and they will schedule her a lot sooner that 10-15 weeks, I waited 4 weeks for an appointment. ( Unless things have gotten really backed up there). As for the medical, I think they were most likely telling her she needs her immunization records to bring to the Medical appointment in Kiev. Go to this site: http://ukraine.usembassy.gov/fiancee.html and read everything concerning the Consulate process. It will answer most of your questions. The medical will cost $125 USD . It is done only at one clinic in Kiev contracted by the Consulate.

Here is more useful info for you:

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).2.Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.3.Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).4.I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.5.You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.6.A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.7.Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

NOTE: Tip Regarding Vaccination Records

The K-1/2 beneficiary will be required by the embassy to have a "medical" done prior to the visa interview. Part of this interview will require that previous vaccinations are documented and potentially additional required vaccinations performed. Once this is complete the doctor will note this on a DS-3025 form that will be sent to the embassy. During the medical appointment request an official copy of the vaccination records from the physician (or a copy of the completed DS-3025 if they will give it to you) as this will be helpful to have on hand in the future (specifically it can be helpful when filing for Adjustment of Status if your DS-3025 form is not available).

Hi,

A year ago I went for the K1 interview to the Kyiv Consulate, and it was completely different from what you are saying. I had received the paper package from the Consulate with the detaled instructions on what to do and how to schedule the medical and interview. Consulate never called me. and right opposite - I had to call them several times, but that was another story.

You can find the instructions and download the information package for Ukraine here:

US Embassy in Ukraine

I would personally called them to sort the things out.

Good luck!

Strange  its not that hard. do not wait for packet 3 if Kyiv received your petition on Friday you may have to wait a full week as we did to get interview. ours was aprox 4 weeks from date they had us in the system
