This is complicated and I know a long shot at best. I have applied and am in process to bring my fiancee from Russia to the U.S. on a K-1 visa; I submitted the application two months ago and we are in the slow grinding approval process now.

Meanwhile, my fiancee's daughter, who lives in New York and is not a U.S. citizen (she is a permanent resident now), has become very ill and is presently hospitalized with a poor prognosis.

Is anyone familiar with the process for applying for a temporary visa for the mother (my fiancee)? Is there anything I can do to help?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated, thank you.

Sorry to hear about your daughter however chances ate that if your fiance applies for a visitor visa she won't get approved because they'll think she's trying to come before her fiance visa gets approved, thus staying and adjust status. But if she does decide to apply there's nothing you can do, everything will be done in her country. Goodluck!

first i'm sorry to hear about your fiancee's daughter. it is difficult to obtain a b-1/b-2 visa while you have a k-1 or immigrant visa file in progress but not impossible. she should absolutely apply but be prepared with the following, very very strong ties to her home country, a lease, mortgage, employment contract/letter, and if at all possible copies of the medical file and prognosis for her daughter here in the states. it's definitely not a slam dunk but with those things in place perhaps she'll stand a better chance. there certainly some sme's here so hopefully they will chime in with more information and suggestions.

best of luck

I would say, apply for the temp B1/B2 Visa, take all the relevant documentation from doctors and hospital and explain the situation.

Also can explain the consular that once she is ok your fiancee will be willing to go back to the home country (Russia) and wait for the K1 process to be completed.

It difficult given the situation, but no impossible. Hope your girl feels better.
