Hello everyone,

This is a great forum with lots of quite pertinent information. I would like to ask a few questions on how to fill out certain fields in the I-130 form. I might be being extremely picky in this, so please bear with me. I just don't want to leave anything to chance. The basic assumption is that all fields must be completed and filled in the form, hence are my questions.

  • Part B, item 2 - Address.

    The townhouse does not have an apartment number. What should I do? Put "N/A" there? Put "NONE"? Leave empty?

  • Part B, item 3 - Place of Birth.

    When I was born, the country was the USSR. Now it's the Russian Federation, or Russia. The birth certificate does not show the country of birth as it was not in the document at the time. So which country I should put in there? I would think that "Russia" would be fine. Any ideas?

  • Part B, item 10 - Alien Registration Number.

    I am a naturalized US Citizen. I used to have this number, but I suppose that now I need to put a "N/A" in this field. Is that correct?

  • Part B, item 14 - If you are a lawful permanent resident alien, complete the following

    I am not as I am a US Citizen. Should I fill the field with "N/A" or leave it blank?

  • Part C, item 9, 10 - Spouse's Social Security and Alien Registration Numbers.

    She's never been to the US and never had these numbers. I think I should put "NONE" here. Putting "N/A" would not be quite correct as these numbers can and will be applicable to her in future. Any insights?

  • Part C, item 14 - If your relative is currently in the U.S., complete the following

    My spouse is not in the US. Should I put a "N/A" there? Should I put it in ALL fields, like "He or she arrived as a", "Date Arrived", "Date authorized stay expired"? Or should I just leave the fields blank?

  • Part C, item 16 - Has your relative ever been under immigration proceedings?

    No, there was no immigration proceedings of any kind. But should I leave the "Where" and "When" fields blank, or fill them with "N/A"?

  • Part C, item 19 - Your relative's address abroad.

    Provided that my spouse stays and lives abroad, is this the same as Part C, item 2?

  • Part C, item 22 - Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status.

    My spouse is abroad and will go through the embassy. Should I leave all four fields blank, or fill the out with "N/A"?

  • Part D, item 2 - Have you ever before filed a petition for this or any other alien?

    In my case the answer is "No". But should I leave the following field blank, or put a "N/A" there?

I appreciate your patience, and thank you for any and all responses.

* Part B, item 2 - Address.

The townhouse does not have an apartment number. What should I do? Put "N/A" there? Put "NONE"? Leave empty?

we put N/A

* Part B, item 3 - Place of Birth.

When I was born, the country was the USSR. Now it's the Russian Federation, or Russia. The birth certificate does not show the country of birth as it was not in the document at the time. So which country I should put in there? I would think that "Russia" would be fine. Any ideas?

maybe put "USSR (now Russia)"??? I don't know though, but I'm sure they figure it out

* Part B, item 10 - Alien Registration Number.

I am a naturalized US Citizen. I used to have this number, but I suppose that now I need to put a "N/A" in this field. Is that correct?

I don't know. I'd suppose you put N/A since you're no more an "alien" ;)

* Part B, item 14 - If you are a lawful permanent resident alien, complete the following

I am not as I am a US Citizen. Should I fill the field with "N/A" or leave it blank?

I would put N/A or none whatever fits better anywhere where you can't put a concrete answer

* Part C, item 9, 10 - Spouse's Social Security and Alien Registration Numbers.

She's never been to the US and never had these numbers. I think I should put "NONE" here. Putting "N/A" would not be quite correct as these numbers can and will be applicable to her in future. Any insights?

I think both are fine. Can't remember what we put for me, but I'd go for N/A since as of right now these numbers are not applicable

* Part C, item 14 - If your relative is currently in the U.S., complete the following

My spouse is not in the US. Should I put a "N/A" there? Should I put it in ALL fields, like "He or she arrived as a", "Date Arrived", "Date authorized stay expired"? Or should I just leave the fields blank?

I think we put N/A everywhere, leaving something blank seems like you over read or so

* Part C, item 16 - Has your relative ever been under immigration proceedings?

No, there was no immigration proceedings of any kind. But should I leave the "Where" and "When" fields blank, or fill them with "N/A"?

again, there's place to put something, if there is nothing to put, put N/A I would say ;)

* Part C, item 19 - Your relative's address abroad.

Provided that my spouse stays and lives abroad, is this the same as Part C, item 2?

I don't remember Part C, item 2 exactly...can't be wrong to put your spouses address I guess

* Part C, item 22 - Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status.

My spouse is abroad and will go through the embassy. Should I leave all four fields blank, or fill the out with "N/A"?

put N/A, I think that's where we had to do corrections in the embassy...next to it it asks something like if your relative is abroad such and such, right? there you should put the city of where the embassy is where she will apply

* Part D, item 2 - Have you ever before filed a petition for this or any other alien?

In my case the answer is "No". But should I leave the following field blank, or put a "N/A" there?

if its asking for who and when i think it can be wrong to put N/A since it is "N/A" ;)

Oh yeah...If I were you I would look through the instructions for filling out I-130 again. I only gave you my opinions and don't want you to have any mistakes in it because you relied to what I said. ;) No offense, I just don't want to take this responsibility since I am not working for those authorities...I am just a married person like you doing the same process that you are starting now! ;)
