I Am/Can

I have no idea, but I can tell you I filed July 11th and didn't get a packet as of yesterday. Now I'm gone for a month. I have business to deal with. I had to go and won't be back for a month. I hope the packet is in my hold mail and not lost and I hope I have it by then.

Her is my suggestion take the longest you think it is going to take and ask the landlord if you can move sooner without penalities if you get your stuff sooner.

Or maybe she can write the lease that says you leave when your Imm comes through?

good luck

Hey Everyone. Great to see a this forum. We mailed our I-130 on May 3 to Toronto. Document verification Aug 13 was quick and painless. No questions.

There was one couple before us and one couple after. I've been in the building several times in the last year and going to "room 16" was kind of odd. All the teller windows had their blinds drawn. Someone would peek out every couple of minutes to see who was there and after about 10 minutes they called us up, took our documents and asked us to sit down. 10 more minutes and they called us up again. Documents approved! Sent to Montreal ! They said that we should hear from Montreal in about 4 weeks. Hope so. This is quite a process. It took me a year to get my US passport as I'd never had one, so many documents needed.

Welcome, Lew. :)

That's great that you've got a bit of a head start in terms of document collection (for your passport). Did it really take 3 months to get an appointment at the consulate in Toronto? Wow.

It will more than likely take more than 4 weeks to receive your case number from Montreal, I think people receiving them recently have waited about 6-8 weeks.

I'll add you to our list.

Any other questions? We're a helpful bunch. ;)

Thanks Birdnerd,

It really did take 3 months. They got back to me initially within a week because I hadn't included my wife's 2x2's, which I sent immediately. I got the appt. email on july 12 for aug 13. Looks like I might see another summer in toronto. I'll lose it if I'm still here to see the new streetcars arrive :)

Thanks for adding us to the list, it'll be interesting to watch.

Questions? Boy do I have questions. I'm going through the forums now looking for the answers. I'll be sure to ask, thanks everyone in advance.

Congrats! That's great news!

I had a question I was hoping to ask all of you. While we wait for that interview letter, are we still able to head across the border into the US or will there be issues at the border / customs gate?

That is awesome dawn!! It is frustrating to have absolutely no way to communicate directly with Montreal, your letter the next best thing I've heard.

Here is my corrected information. I applied and was accepted for my wife's and son's I-130 early in March 2010. We recieved Packet 1 in April and sent it off the first part of May. After that, I moved down for employment to the United States late June.

Name..................................I-130 Filed...........................DS-230.....................Interview Date

bscobrown ........................... Mar 2010.............................May 2010

Right now my wife and son are visiting me in the United States. We were worried about them crossing the border, so we made sure we had all the documentation needed to show that she was returning. This first trip, she didn't even need any of it. The border crossing (over land near Vancouver) was the most uneventful part of her trip.

You're the first confirmed interview for our thread. :D

Congrats! That's great news!

I had a question I was hoping to ask all of you. While we wait for that interview letter, are we still able to head across the border into the US or will there be issues at the border / customs gate?

Hi bigbass,

You should probably be ok crossing. I went for 5 days in July, had a letter from employer with my return date, bills, wedding invitation, etc. Wasn't asked for ANY of it. In fact, the BO only asked the purpose of my visit (friend's wedding), when was my last trip to the US and how long, and asked about an old J-1 visa from 2006. Stamped me a B-1 visitor's visa with no end date.

Needless to say, it certainly depends on the day and the officer you speak with. The worst that can happen is they won't let you through (possibly until your visa comes through).

Congrats again!

Thanks for the quick response!

So do they even see that the person crossing has an immigration application pending? And if someone crossed in and stayed for a few months, could that harm the application process?
