Thanks for clarifying. I was a little confused as we just made an appointment and went in to the Calgary consulate and filed ours. We did not mail it and then wait for them to set up an appointmnent. I guess the process is differnt in Calgary? or maybe it has changed in the past few months? Hope everyone is having a lovely Friday. Enjoy!

Yep, the process differs from consulate to consulate.

Yep. When we filed our I-130 last November in Vancouver we had to turn up at the consulate between 2pm and 4pm on a Friday, no appointment was needed. It then took approximately 6 weeks to receive the package from Montreal, but bear in mind this was over the busy Christmas period (holidays, slower post). The date on the letter received was 4 weeks after we filed at the consulate.

I guess you can add me to this list please

I went to Montreal and applied on tuesday July 13th I -130 (I am the american my husband is the canadian). I had all my documents which they took my copies that I had made and said they will mail stuff for the next process and explained that I need to be domiciled.

I'm waiting, but not sure what we are waiting for exactly. They said the next time they will see us if we have everything in order (domicile and other proof and documents that they will inform me of it's to get the visa).

So I assume I am waiting for forms for medical, police clearance etc.

As I say I'm not sure what is the next process in the procedure or timeline

Hi housewife,

You are waiting for your I-130 approval to arrive in the mail, along with your MTL case number, and the 'checklist', which you will most likely receive about 4-6 weeks after you filed the I-130, you also need to print and fill out a DS-230 (immigrant visa application). The checklist lists all kinds of documents you need to start gathering. You do not send the documents requested on the checklist, you're merely letting them know you have or will have them by the time of your interview. You can start collecting those now, if you haven't got them already.

The documents requested are as follows:

Passport

Photographs

Birth Certificate (long form)

Marriage Certificate

Police Certificate (you can get this done at your local metro police or RCMP detachment)

Evidence of Domicile (start collecting this stuff - shows them you are going to start your life there: place to live, job, buying car, opening bank accounts, etc)

Affidavit of Support (I-864)

Evidence of Support (backing financial documents)

Also (if appropriate)

Adoption Certificate

Divorce or Death Certificate (for previous marriage)

Criminal (court and prison) records

Military Records

Immigration Records

For minor children, custody/consent

Have a look back at this thread (it's only a few pages) to understand more about timing. Unfortunately, you are probably in for quite a wait for an interview date. :(

Hi again,

Ok, thank you. They took a lot of those papers that I brought, copies of passport, (his and mine) marriage, divorce, birth certificate, pictures, they took that when I went with the I-130.

I needed a couple of things from him translated and I've done that.

In 3 weeks I already rented an apartment just waiting to get the lease signed and I've opened my gas, electric and set up an appointment for telephone when we go back on vacation. I'm also buying a business which will be mine when I go down for vacation.

I will have employees to run it for me and I will manage it by phone as well. The lease will also have his name on it. I actually needed his income from here to get the lease so he has to co-sign it.

I have a joint bank account here so I guess a letter from the bank stating that we have had this account for over 10 years jointly is proof of co-mingled finances??

I also have a joint credit card with him. I am assuming that is enough proof and we've been married for so long.

thank you for your reply

I've read the entire thread. I'm still all confused. We have no children beetween the 2 of us. Just us, no parents either on both sides they are deceased.

This has helped. First guy said about 4 months for an appointment, the second one said around the new year.

I hope it's 4 months

Do you know how long it takes for the RCMP police clearance??? to aquire it?? He has no record of any kind.

We ordered his police clearance three weeks ago today and still havent recieved anything back yet. They said it would be about a month. What part are you confused by? When you went in and they took copies of everything and they should have given you a "letter" that says your I-130 was accepted (not approved) and you should have paid a $355 USD fee. After that it should take 4-6 weeks before you get your Packet in the mail. This will have a checklist of things you need before coming to the interview and the DS 230. You should send the DS 230 and the checklist back ASAP.

The checklist will ask for things like:

your canadian spouses long form birth certificate....if it doesnt have his parents names on it, they wont accept it. You need the long form.

both parties former divorce degrees

marriage certificate

adoption records

etc

Also if you dont have hubbies vaccination records you might want to get that done as well. If you have more questions on which titers he needs let me know and Ill find the link and send it to ya.

I too was hoping that it would be four months but as we filed our I-130 almost a month ago and havent heard a single peep out of montreal I doubt thats going to happen. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you want. Almost always someones been through close to or exactly what you are going through. Also in the beginning of this thread there is a timeline for all the other people doing DCF through Montreal, none of those people have gotten interview dates and they filed their I-130s over 6 months ago! Scary eh?

Hi,

I paid the $355 and they gave me a paper showing what considers domicile and the guy explained it to me and said we will contact you and the next time we see you will be after the new year. I asked him if that was the last time and he said yes. But I didn't get a letter.

That's the part I was confused on. I got no case # nothing, other than a receipt for the $355 and the standard "what docmicle means".

What vacinations?? He is 60 years old??

The first guy I saw said the wait for an appointment was about 4 months but I dont' know what he meant. The second guy said after the new year. I filed July 12 I think. or whatever that tuesday was.

I know that one person left the week before who was doing the interviews/taking papers so they probably have a new person or are one short.

We are not young people. We've been marrid well over 10+ years.

I had all the documents, (of course not the police or medical) but all I missed was 2 translations and he said bring them next time. I brought divorce and birth and marriage. Marriage is US as we married there and came back here to live as I was already living here.

I have a question for you. Can you and your wife go back and forth to the US for vacation etc. I go to US doctors in Plattsburgh and I need my husband to drive me. We also go on vacation.

I can easily get a letter from his employer showing he is a partner in his firm and is expected back to work plus that we own property here and we always drive in his car.

Do you think we will have problems. I mean we have been going back and forth for years. If he wanted to "stay" he could have anytime it's not like we are newlyweds. We are doing it by the book.

What consulate did you file your I-130 at? Different consulates have different procederes. You are filing for your spouse to receive an IR1 visa correct? YOu arent just wanting to take him there for a small period of time?

The letter I got when I filed my I-130 says basically in 4-6 weeks I will get a packed with a case number, a checklist, and then in 6-8months an interview will be scheduled in Montreal.

http://www.panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age6.htm

here is the link of what tests he will need to have done if you dont have a copy of his vaccinations as a child. Everyone is required to do this. We went to our primary doctor gave us a list and then went to the lab one time. The test is a very simple blood draw. Nice to meet you as well Housewife. If ya have any more confusion let me know and ill see what I can do:) Have a good day!

Reading through the link above, am I correct in thinking that you do not HAVE to get immunization records, as you can pay for booster shots/blood test proving you have had the required shots? I lived in the UK when I was younger and don't want to have to write to the NHS in England requesting immunization records.
