Hi, I have a couple of questions. One I asked earlier, do the pics need to have a date stamp?

Secondly, once you get the approval. What happens??? I mean, it says you have to travel to the US to actually ask for residence or whatever?? So since we are doing this by car, can we travel to the border, do the "aksing" and then go back to Canada for a bit. I'm a bit confused on all of this. I mean I want to move ASAP but once approved we need a bit of time to take care of our affairs. And may have to go back and forth for a while?? What about SSN?? How does that work. On one of the applications it said does he want to apply and checked yes. How do you get the SSN???

third. Do you really need transcripts if you have -0- income on your US tax returns. I sent them in but I didn't ask for transcripts. I was never requried to file and am not using any "earned" income for AOS. I have proof of assets etc proof of domicile and copies of the -0- tax returns but I didn't ask for transcripts??

I assumed that the transcripts were to prove you were earning that income and can show support. If you are using assets, and show your copies of the IRS forms why do you need transcripts if they don't enter into the AOS picture???

Thank you in advance

I did not petition via DCF but via CR1/IR1 but I can share my experience.

My photos were not date stamped and I had no issues at all.

Once you are approved at your interview you need to wait for the return of your passport. Your passport will have the visa attached to one of the pages, and you will also receive a brown envelope marked "DO NOT OPEN" which you present at the border when entering. You will be directed to secondary where you are processed. If you are petitioning via DCF the US spouse must enter at the same time or before the non-US spouse.

Some filers have been told at their interview that they are not to POE until they are ready to move completely but I did my POE and returned a week later to tie up loose ends, returned to the US after a few days and then came back to Canada again a month later to close my house sale and move my furniture. I have also read of filers that have done their POE processing and returned the same day without issue.

As far as the SSN goes, checking the box on the DS-230 has been notoriously ineffective for a lot of filers. I waited until 3 weeks after my POE, took my birth certifcate, passport, filled in SSN application (SSN Application) to the local office and had my card in 6 days.

Sorry but I can't help with the AOS questions.

Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question or two regarding the immunizations for the medical. I am wondering how official the immunization records need to be. My husband found an old family physician report specifying all his immunizations from when he was a baby. The unfortunate part is that it's not signed by the physician. How strict are the doctors regarding the immunizations? Is the document good enough? Is it better if my husband just gets the immunizations again?

We both recently got a TD shot for a trip down to Mexico. I'm assuming this can count as a booster shot but i'm unsure.

One interesting note is that you can't book your medical well in advance like the interview. My husband tried to book his for February and the receptionist told him to call back in 2 months. Weird.

Thanks,

- Sam

Those of you who did POE, then came back a few days later back to Canada etc, what questions did they ask you on your initial POE?

Did they not check how many pieces of luggage you are bringing? Doesn't it look odd that you are carrying only a carry-on luggage (for example) at your POE, whereas it is supposed to be your "official" move to the US?

Are they expecting a big list of luggages on the POE and does the lack of a large amount of stuff on the POE look bad?

Also, does the officer @ POE ask you which city you are going to, where u will live, do you have a job yet, is your house sold yet, did you quit your old job yet, etc??

Its frustrating getting different answers from different officials...

I did my POE at the Peace Bridge.

When I POEd I had my car packed with personal goods but they did not ask me about any of it, in fact did not look into my car at all. The only thing I was asked at the POE by the processing officer was to confirm the current US address. They asked me absolutely nothing about my plans, my house, employment etc.

I returned to Canada a week and a half later for a few days. The only thing I was asked when returning to the US after that trip was "Why did you go back to Canada so soon?" I answered that I had returned for my son's graduation and they were fine with that. I then stayed in the US for another month and returned once again to complete the sale of my house. The only thing I was asked when returning to the US after that trip was if I had imported my car yet (which I did at the intial POE.) Again I had a car full of stuff and was not asked anything other than the usual "What are you bringing in?" I had a short list of what I had, they didn't look into the vehicle or question me any further.

Medical review in Montreal

took 1-1/2 hour total

Arrived, hubby filled out 1 page 2 sided questionaiire, standard medical questions. Gave 3 pics (no date stamp required), passport and consulate letter with case # not the one with the apt date was not required. Just the case #. Returned back to him after photocopies.

Waited to see doctor, saw doc, exam maybe 10 min - 15 min. Back to waiting room for nurses. Took blood she says only test for syphilis, hight, weight, eye test.

Asks for vaccine records. DH had everything that was needed so he needed nothing else.

Back to waiting room called for chest x-ray

After that you pay and can leave.

Told results are ready in 3 business days so for us not before monday but to call before comming just to be sure.

That's it.

Thanks to everyone here, your advice re vaccinations was very helpful and most appreciated.

Good luck to all

I'm new. My husband, USC and me, Canadian citizen. We filed the I-130. I need help. My husband is employed in the US, makes 44k annually. We do not have kids yet. He does have an apartment, he does not own a home. Will we need a joint sponsor for the 864? He has not filed US taxes for 3 years cause he was living in Canada with me. This is his first year in the US since 2007. The poverty guidleines are confusing me. He has 3k in savings and my RSVP is at 10k, Canadian. Please help. I am overwhelmed. Trisha

If his 44k a year is made in the US you wont need a joint sponsor so long as its just the two of you. He needs to file the past three years taxes. (there is a spot apparently for putting your canadian income in)- thats what I did (advised by my accountant). Dont worry too much Ms Trisha, it will all work out in the end:)
