Have you tried calling Montreal directly? or if you sent an email have can catching title like " Packet 4 you mailed lost in Mail... then your Case #" or you can make up your own. I tried this trick before and works as I got a response faster.

Hi tauruslady!

Unfortunately I have tried calling Montreal and all of the numbers to call Montreal, just end up being to recorded messages (if anyone knows of something different, please let me know). I have tried the emailing (with no answer), however I will try another title  I just wish there was someone there to talk to there, however I guess absolutely everyone would be calling them then.

If there are any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you!!

Hey, I'm in need of help on this one...

On the affidavit of support (i-864), there is the section that talks about Annual Income, and asks for the adjusted gross income for the passed 3 years.

Since I've been in Canada for all of 2009 for example, all of my income came from Canada. Thus my adjusted gross income is $0 on the US tax return.

Is this going to be a problem in terms of providing my Canadian pay stubs to show I actually made money, but in Canada? Will they even look at my Canadian tax returns?

Hey bass,

Just wanted to let ya know that when I filed my US taxes for each year while living in Canada and only having Canadian income my accountant in the US informed me that I MUST include my canadian income (translated into how much it would be in USD) as worldwide income. Otherwise, supposedly it can be considered tax fraud. I was also allowed to count all of the taxes I had paid into CRA. I therefor didnt owe any taxes to the IRS. I dont know if this is any problem for you but I just wanted to let you know.

Hey,

Thanks for the follow-up. Yeah, I'm aware of that, and I provided all my Canadian income papers

(along with my filed tax papers for Canada). But because of the tax treaty, and since I don't

have to pay taxes on the Canadian income, the "Adjusted Gross Income" ends up being 0.

So in that case, what should I show?

When my USC husband files taxes, he puts his Canadian Income converted to US, let the tax formula work and the Tax Due is "zero" sometimes we even has some refund ( funny but thats what it end up to when computed). As long as you filed that shows your ties to USA as a citizen while living in Canada.

Hi tauruslady,

Thanks, we did contact the DOS again today and all that we got from them was a confirmation that they address that they have on file, does not contain our unit number, however they cannot do anything about it... they told us "we have to contact Montreal and we had better get on it" :bonk: When we asked if they had any recommendations, they said "they do not have any access to Montreal files"... and so the saga continues, sigh

Hmm, our CPA used form 1040NR (non-resident) to file our taxes...I'm starting to feel like that was not correct. :/

The address was incomplete,,then I suggest please email a catching Subject..something in Capital letters with URGENT! PLS RESEND PACKET 4 YOUR MAIL DID NOT REACH US...Then you explain what you learned from DOS bla bla bla and it is important that you communicated this to them...to note in your file or else No Record..No Evidence...

I will try to update, but with moving and all I might not get on as much. Anyone is welcome to make changes :) To maintain the spacing of the chart, I just find the last time I posted it, hit 'reply', then take out the post quote tags [ quote] [ / quote].

question about i864 & i864a, we will be moving in with my mother in USA & she is the co sponsor & since she lives with us, she is also a house hold member, but since I don't work & my mom's income is not enough my uncle will also be a sponsor, but he doesn't live with us, so what is he? Co sponsor or joint sponsor, & does he need to fill out 864 or 864A????
