Thanks, canok. :)

Refresh my memory - DoS told you P4 was mailed? When was that? Did they confirm you are 'eligible for interview'?

If the answer is yes, then maybe try emailing Mtl consulate (they actually REPLIED to someone the other day!) and explain the situation.

Don't worry too much, you've still got plenty of time between now and your interview date, so I'm sure you can get it worked out. :)

DOS told me the package was mailed on September 10th and that I was eligible for an interview. I did email Montreal about three weeks ago, so maybe something will come of that... I will cross my fingers, however in the meantime ALL THE BEST TO YOU!!

Are they really meticulous when it comes to 1-1864? My hubby just got a job this week and his income may not reached the amount in the poverty line

however, we have little investment and cash on bank to augment...that's the only worry i have right now...

A quick question as I was reading the reviews I see that we have to pay another fee, I filed @ the mtl consulate & paid $350, how much do we have to pay more???? & since I don't work in USA rite now, I have a co sponsor but I think I read somewhere that my canadian hubby can also fill 864 & include his income, savings & assets? & also shud I get a notarized letter from my parents that we will be staying with them after we move to US & until he finds a job..,,????

I was filling mine, you have to Fill up another form I-1864a , ( Contract between a sponsor and the Applicant). You can include Canadian joint account with your husband, RRSP, other investments. Also if you are working on a job in Canada that you will be continuing when you go to the US, ( which I have a letter from my employer) that will be considered too. My husband's income in the US is not enough to meet the standard in the poverty line so I filled form 1-1864 and I-1864a.

My interview id next week so I 'll update you if this comes through.

I think they are pretty strict about the sponsorship amount. You can use assets to make up for the shortfall, I believe in the amount of 3x. For example, if your husband is making 15,000 and the poverty limit is around 18,000, then you would need 3x the difference of 3,000, so $9,000 in savings.

You might want to carefully read the I-864 instruction pages to confirm.

I am under the impression it's quite difficult for the Canadian to count their assets/income.

The $355 is for the I-130 petition, you will need to pay $404 at the interview for the visa fee.

Not to mention the $250-$300 for medical, then passport photos, etc.
