hey, random question and probably a dumb one too...

for the interview, are they gonna wanna see proof of the marriage (outside of the marriage certificate)?

you know, stuff like wedding photos, photos throughout the marriage, plane tickets, etc?

i know the checklist doesn't make mention of it, but i read this review:

http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/view-dos-cis-reviews.php?entry=6708

is it just a matter of if the marriage was less than 2 years or not? IR-1 vs CR-1?

Im taking picts of us taking trips, the wedding etc. Better tobe safe than sorry IMO. and we will have been married for over 2 years at the time of our interview.

Cant hurt to have too much!

Hey all,

Nope, not worried, just want to go and get it done, then head out west. :)

tauruslady - unfortunately no DCFers scheduled in the first few weeks of October. Next one is me.

dabigbass - best to bring some 'evidence of bona fide relationship', sometimes they want to see pics, flights, things that prove a real and ongoing relationship.

good luck birdned. Looking foward to your review.

I am not sure what to bring. I've been married for so long and I didn't have a white wedding. Actually I got married by a Justice of Peace and no one attended.

And the worse part is I live in quebec and you are not allowed legally to take your husband's name (talk about not being free). I can bring a letter from the bank saying we have a joint account.

I don't own the condo, it's solely in his name which is what I wanted. I can show that I have a phone in my name and he has a phone in his name at the same address but that's about it. I'm not big on pics and it doesn't ask for anything anyway.

I think I'll bring a letter from the bank saying we have a joint account and have had one for like 20 years and that should do it. I have paperless banking so no statement.

Good Luck Birdnerd on your incoming Interview.

After you, then I will be the next to be grilled on Tuesday, October 26. Looking forward for your review.

In my case, am still finishing up some papers for the I-1864 as my husband just got a job offer this week to start.

he was already in the US working since March but came home to Canada for 2 months as she got bored waiting for the interview

After we have a sure Interview date, he got back to the US and started finding a new job, thus he is starting again this new job.

He just took this job for this reason but a little below the poverty guideline required for the number of people in the household ( better than nothing)

We will add some bank deposit and if not enough I prepared 1-1864a ( contarct between sponsor and household member)

as I will be continuing my current self-employed job in canada to the US with the same employer.

So I hope this will be good enough proof. ( any comments? )

Hi all,

We filed our I-130 in Montreal on 31/8. We are on a very tight timescale - I am an Australian on a temporary work permit in Canada (expires 9th May 2011). In order to interview, I understand I must have legal status in Canada (ie. a work permit), so we're hoping that everything comes through on the quicker side. From our initial date of filing (31/8), we've calculated we have somewhere near 250 days (including holidays) from date of filing the I-130 to when my legal status expires. We're applying for a straight "Green Card" rather than for a K-1 or K-3 visa.

In order to make sure that everything runs as quickly as possible, we're preparing the forms you get in a Packet 3, so as to send them straight back upon receipt of our Packet 3. We are aware there are a number of forms to complete - but we're not sure first of which forms we'd need to fill out, and secondly whether or not we'd need to include an affidavit of support with the checklist we send back with the P3 checklist.

Could anyone here help us with some advice? Thanks.

Matt & Susan.

Sorry, us again. On reading our post it was a little confusing so perhaps this would be a better explanation of our questions. Thanks!

What else does anyone here think we need to obtain to send back the checklist and secondly are there any other forms we need to return at the same time?

We'd really appreciate any help that could be offered here. Thanks.

Question about Form 1-134

We are filling out this form and there's a Question about dependents whether what to choose between 'WHOLLY OR PARTIALLY' .

Is it safe to choose "Partially dependent" for me and my 21 years old daughter?

We did not choose wholly because we will be working anyways...Do you think this would be an issue?

I-134 is only for K-1 visas, you need to fill out only the I-864.

For better responses, it would be best if you wrote out the full question, as we're not all familiar with each question on each form. ;)

Hi and welcome, Matt and Susan. :)

Good news for you is that the process seems to be getting done a bit quicker at Montreal now since they started this online scheduling. If you see the chart I will post below, it should not be taking over 200 days for your petition, you can see the more recent applicants are able to schedule interviews at a more reasonable rate.

Barring any RFE's, you should hopefully be receiving your I-130 approval from Montreal shortly (usually takes from around 4 to 8 weeks). Once you've gotten that, you can turn it right around the next (or even same) day. You do not need to send any of the requested documents at that time, just the DS-230 (part 2 unsigned). I believe some of the recent filers have indicated the consulate is no longer including the 'checklist' in the packet 3 anymore, but this list tells you what you need to have ready for your interview:

passport, 2 passport-sized photos, birth certificate (long form), marriage certificate, police certificate, evidence of domicile, affidavit of support (I-864), evidence of support

ONLY IF APPLIES: adoption certificate, divorce or death certificate (from previous marriage), criminal (court and prison) records, military records, immigration records, custody/consent for minor children

So, just to clarify - you do NOT return the documents with the DS-230, you only need to gather them to bring them to the interview.

Good luck!

Hi all again,

Our P3 just arrived today and we are on the canada.usvisa-info.com site. We've created an account, "added a family member", ie. me, and are trying to select my Trip Purpose. The P3 has said we "must choose 'Permanently Immigrate to the US'", but there are four options.

* Permanently immigrate to the US (Fiance K1/K2)

* Permanently immigrate to the US (Scheduled by NVC)

* Permanently immigrate to the US (Ready to Schedule)

* Permanently immigrate to the US (Diversity Visa).

We're quite sure that it would be either the second or third option, but given we're DCF'ing we're almost certain our application hasn't gone through to the NVC. We're applying for a CR-1 visa.

Thanks for the advice so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Matthew & Susan
