I wrote up a letter for my husband saying that he intended to re-establish domicile...I got an example from here, I believe in the proving domicile thread. It just basically listed the steps he had taken to re-establish domicile, and the supporting documents attached. Here's the letter:

Name

Social Security #

FORM I-864

No. 15 Country of Domicile

I, _________, am currently residing in Canada with my wife. Below you will find a list of attached documents to show my intention to re-establish domicile in the US and the steps that I have taken to re-establish domicile.

Steps I have taken to re-establish domicile in the US:

• Purchased a house in Florida.

• Obtained a social security number.

• Obtained a US Passport

• Quit my job in Canada.

• Contacted shipping company for estimate of costs to ship belongings.

• Opened a bank account in the US.

Supporting documents for the above steps I have taken:

• Mortgage statement for our property in the US

• Utility bills from house in the US

• Bank statements from our US account.

• Quote from shipping company

• Letter of resignation from my current job.

• Copy of social security card

• US passport

I declare that I intend in good faith to re-establish my domicile in the United States no later than the date of my wife’s admission into the US.

I certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States that the statements in this letter and all accompanying evidence are true and correct.

I applied in person at the MTL consulate and the man told me that I can go to the interview but it wasn't necessary. I will be there.

I am going to assume that you own the property in the USA and proved it. That is what it takes to show domicile if you live here permanently is what I'm guessing. I don't think just writing a letter would do it. They were very clear on that to me and to a friend who recentley moved back with her family. They told her she had to have the $$$ in assets or a job and she needed a domicile.

Good luck to everyone. And congrats to all, anxiously awaiting my turn or should I say DH turn.

I've actually been checking this thread on a daily basis as well.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm stressing a bit on the upcoming interview. Trynna find things I can use for the Domicile proof.

I have it set up so when anyone posts in this thread it sends me and email on my cell phone:) LOL. But anyway. What do you have so far in the way of proving domicile?

haha, thats hilarious. i think i might do the same.

hmm well i plan on flying out to the states next week to do the following:

a) register to vote

b) get a drivers license from the US again

c) gather all tax records for the last 3 years

d) try to re-register my car and get car insurance in the US (although my car is still in canada, so i might not be able to do this)

e) try to find a job (although i find this one highly unlikely since i only have like 2 weeks to do this)

my worry is that (d) and (e) are gonna be hard to do so im assuming those wont be on my list.

also, we live with family in canada, and we plan on moving back in with other family in the states. so there really isnt any official lease agreements with either side.

i suppose i could draft up documents stating i would leave the 1st family, and enter an agreement with the 2nd family, but ive read somewhere on this forum that the immigration officer might just see it as a family arrangement, "mother will do anything for her child."

other than that, i don't own any properties that i would be selling, and i really dont want to sign a lease on a place in the states without a confirmed job offer.
