Canadian DCFs Waiting for Interview in Montreal

Has anyone run into a tech problem while trying to schedule your interview in Montreal online? I got my letter and Packet4 authorizing me to schedule, and I've been trying for a few days. I go through the process, enter my case number, passport number, and choose my DHL Courier location and I get to the point where the system tells me the next available appointment time(currently it's November 9th, 2010), but then I get bounced out to a Visa Information Service login page that asks for a Username and Password - neither of which I have. I've asked my lawyer to look into it, but thought I'd ask here as well, as it's depressing watching the interview date move further and further into the future...

Thanks,

Heather

Hi Heatherd,

Yes, it seems this is a known bug in the software. You might be able to get through after trying a few times. If not, then try calling one of the local access numbers to physically speak with someone to book a date.

Birdned, can you update me, I'm sending in the DS230 today via DHL.

Ok, I spoke to DHL again before going. The guy on the counter says they are "aware" that it's free to us if you have the ID # (which you get when you register/long in on the website).

He said they just started this yesterday.

So for any in the Montreal area, if you go to the Dorval one, they are aware, you must have the documentation letter (obtained on the visa website) fill in your ID and take it over.

I will post an update later on today or tomorrow to let everyone know how it went.

Hey kimberlyk,

We are filling out his income according to what he made in Canada, but whatever it was in USD. His total income on his IRS transcripts shows '0', but his actual gross salary and whatnot are represented, just on a different line. So I'm putting the salary amount, with an asterisk denoting it was made in Canada. I figure it's showing an upward trend in terms of earnings, so why should it not count?

I don't think there is a really definitive answer as to what to fill in there.

Thanks very much. That seems to be the answer I get most often and I completely agree. We should at least be able to show that we work, earn money and have skill necessary to obtain gainful employment in the US as well as Canada!

Okay, so we got our Packet4 in the mail as well. Since the online method of booking kept taking us to the login page (to which we don't have any userid/password), and following the advice of you guys (VJ'ers), we called the number.

The person booked us for an appointment on Nov 2, 2010.

Hope all goes well.

BTW, perhaps all the P4's are coming in now because they were waiting to update their new website?? Now that its updated they are sending all the P4's at once?? Perhaps the overall process will just be alot easier/shorter now? (helps future applicants not the rest of us though) :P

Hoping for smooth interviews for all of you/us :)

Choles

Want some advice on doing a "no no". It says in the P3 now not to schedule the interview yet, but it also says that the reviewing of the DS230 should only take six weeks. (which is what its been taking for everyone else in the past as well). Im wondering if anyone thinks it would be a bad idea to try and schedule my interview now but schedule it for the second week in December which is 12 weeks from now? Opinions? Let me know. Im on my way to send my DS230 back via DHL.

PS the reason I ask is bc I need to sign a new lease on our apartment by the end of the month, however if we could move to the US at the end of December (my original plan bc we get laid off over winter holidays) that would save us alot of time and money.

You could probably do that - it does say on the website that you can cancel and re-schedule interviews as many times as needed... You could always cancel and rebook later if you don't get your P4 in time...

Ok, sent DS230 back via DHL Dorval today. They just got informed of this procedure yesterday.

When the visa is approved and comes back via DHL, the applicant will himself/herself have to go with a photo ID to pick up, not delivered to home. As of today.

They were still reading intructions on how they get paid when I left but they said all is good from my end. Saw him scan it in. They were nice to me. They said they had a lot of calls from people re this.

I just sent mine via DHL too. They said it was the first time sending one to Mtl but that they had been receiving them this way since the beginning of the week. The lady seemed a bit confused. She was under the impression that the packet had to go to the local consulate and then it would get forwarded to MTl. I talked her into sending it strait to the MTL courier address. I hope thats right. They gave me a tracking number so we shall see. PS I asked her to overnight it and she said ok (and I didnt pay for it, so?)

Also I had my P3 loaded onto a jump drive and Ill upload the images later this afternoon. I also sent off paperwork to open a US bank account in mine and hubbys names, and got ahold of someone who may offer us both jobs. Been a busy day. Hows everyone else doing?

Hi, let's see, they said mine will be there tomorrow. Mine of course directly to Montreal.

Depends if Montreal will take it or if they will ship it back to your consulate.

You had to choose your DHL office becuase when the person applying get's his green card he will also get back his passport etc via DHL in your local area and they don't deliver to the home. You have to go pick it up with a photo ID

Hopefully it will be ok. Who knows. DHL was very confused. I know that the ID # was a big deal for DHL.

I have a US bank account in my name. They wouldn't accept my husband as he didn't have a US SS#. I have joint accounts here.

I am not looking for a job. I will either buy a business when I go or DH will continue to work at his job here. We are using assets. I need to get an address.

I am still up in the air with my business. If I buy the business it will be one address for where we live. If not it will be another. I'm waiting another week and then I will take a decision.

I figure I have 12 weeks + 6 for them to review and 6 - 8 till there is an appointment available.

You should probably wait until they've at least logged your P3, which DoS can tell you. They can see it in the system once it's been entered. They then tell you that you are 'eligible for interview'. That would be the best time to book your date.

If you book one now, then change at the last minute, it's a time slot that someone who is ready for interview might have been able to have.

When I go to schedule interview it sends me to a page that requires a username and password....is this what everyone else is getting? I dont have a user name or password.

A few people have encountered this. Read back the last 2-3 pages of the thread.

Yay, choles!

That's great that you actually got through to someone and got all booked up. I'm going to be calling DoS sometime this week to make sure they have some record of the date I booked (still a bit skittish about this whole online thing). :P

Hi, I just received my pkt4 last week. My wife is a US citizen and we have three kids (ages 8, 4 and 2). On the first page of the packet it says "each family member planning to immigrate must appear on the appointment date, subject to the exceptions noted in the personal appearance instructions at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html. To request a waiver of the personal appearance of a child under the age of 14, please contact http://canada.usvisa-info.com. I have been looking but can not find out any additional information about this. I would love to not have to bring the 3 kids from Vancouer to Montreal. Does anyone know any additional information about this?

Sorry, I don't know.

Try asking in the Canada forum - I know there are some people there with children... Canada Forum
