Canadian DCFs Waiting for Interview in Montreal

I did get an email response from Montreal (after my second email to them). It basically just said that they had received my paperwork and I was in line for an interview.

I will be booking my medical appointment in Montreal right away, just not sure how far ahead of the interview I should book it. My interview is on a Wednesday, so will Monday be ok for the medical or should I book it on the Thursday or Friday of the previous week?

Thanks for the quick response!

So do they even see that the person crossing has an immigration application pending? And if someone crossed in and stayed for a few months, could that harm the application process?

I have no idea if they can see, but I presume they can. Not sure why he would have asked me about a years-old J-1 scholar visa. As I mentioned, he gave me the B-1 visitor's visa (my first one ever!) with no return date on it, so I could technically have stayed for the 180 days.

Might be harder trying to cross for several months, though.

If you overstay at anytime I have read that there can be a ten year ban on getting back in the country. So I dont suggest doing that at all.

Hi dawn (still so excited for you!),

You might want to do a VJ search or just look around the Canada forum for medical reviews, I believe one of the Montreal places (I think Medisys) offers next-day results. So a Monday medical should be fine. You shouldn't have too much trouble booking an appointment, I think it's Seiden in Toronto that's hard to get ahold of.

You mentioned you received an email response from Montreal (although it was just confirming receipt of your documents - which is funny, because their auto-response says they won't do that  ), when did you get that? Also, had you tried calling DoS in the interminable 6-month wait after submitting your DS-230? As in, did you have confirmation of a date before receiving your letter?

I wanted to ask everyone on the thread to create and/or edit their VJ timeline, as it helps people in the future to look back and find stats. :)

Especially since I've just discovered that posts older than 6 months are wiped out. <_<

Just click on 'Immigration Timelines', and then 'Edit / Add My Entry'.

I-130 sent date is whenever you sent/mailed/took it in

NOA1 date would be the date you went in person for your I-130 appointment (for some of you this would be same as above)

NOA2 date is when you got your I-130 'approval' from Montreal, with your DS-230 instructions

P3 returned date is when you mailed back the DS-230

NVC section can leave blank

Then, eventually, you can fill in your P4 received date, like dawn just did! :D

Cheers!

Congrats! That's great news!

I had a question I was hoping to ask all of you. While we wait for that interview letter, are we still able to head across the border into the US or will there be issues at the border / customs gate?

My wife (Can Citizen) is visiting me right now in the United States. Even though we prepared as much information we could (return ticket, etc. recommended by VJ) the border was the least problematic part of her trip. She drove from Vancouver to Seattle to visit my family and then flew to North Carolina (much cheaper to fly from States). It sounds like a lot of people are visiting accross the border. As always, it all depends on the border guard.

I called Medisys and they say it takes 3 days, and since my interview is on a Wednesday, the latest I can get an appointment is the Thursday before. So that means I have to fly to Montreal on the 22nd and hang around there until the 29th, and probably fly home on the 30th. That's 8 days in a hotel...grrrr. Or I make a separate trip for the medical, which doesnt save me any money anyway. So I've been looking at cheap but decent hotels for the stay.

As for the email reply, it basically said my documents had been received and I was in line for an interview, they gave no date. But at least I knew my paperwork had got there...you kind of wonder after that long.

Thank god for this forum. It helps so much to hear everyone's story and timeline.

I'm curious about a few things; Do most have a lawyer for this process or are you going it alone like us?

My wife is a Canadian citizen by Naturalization, born in India. She wants to acquire her OCI (overseas citizen of India permanent visa) though is concerned that it might somehow affect/reflect on the immigration process. It can wait but there's a convenient office here in T.O

I, the American, have never lived in the US. We are moving there together as I have a job lined up, gonna shack up with fam at first. I'd love to know how others have crossed this bridge of proof of domicile, at least the intent.

As far as the medical in Toronto, any suggestions as to who's better, cheaper, faster, nicer etc...

Thanks everone,

Lew
