I actually agree with Paul here, not on the "numbers guy" nonsense, but on the mandates on quality rather than a ban. Most of the accidents with drop-side cribs have been due to the use of plastic in the mechanism as well as people using dangerous methods to patch problems that occur due to the poor quality of the crib itself. I have a sturdy drop-side crib that I will continue to use because I feel confident the quality and safety.

people know you shouldn't drink or smoke while pregnant and they still do it... More children develop health problems from that stupidity than die from the cribs..

Paul, let's stay on topic, or has your cyborg systems failed, hurling you off topic?

Haven't you been asked to stop the personal attacks as well paul, I see you continuing with that.

I will agree that they should increase the standards and fix the problems, combined with a recall. Banning it is simply reactionary. However paul, you lose most people with your cold-hearted "numbers" logic.

When we were kids...

we ate paint with lead in it, played with mercury from broken thermometers, stood on the front seat of the car (but mom had her arm around us), ran with scissors, slept on our stomachs in drop side cribs, took guns to school, didn't have seat belts in the car...OMG how did anyone survive?

How does a drop side crib go about killing a baby? (Just Curious)

simple.

Mom isn't married and is not sure who the father is. She works outside the home like a good liberated woman and leaves the baby unattended but with one of those "baby monitors" that sends her a text message if it "sees" anything unusual. Mom is fulfilling her destiny as a woman. Mom finds the kid dead from diaper rash three days later when she gets back from her business trip and blames it on the crib.

I have read about a baby getting stuck between the rail and bedding and suffocating. :( One example:

So your stupidity as a child is an excuse for allowing dangerous products?

BAN THE CRIB!

Seriously Gary? You really should come up with something a little more intelligent before you post this sort of nonsense. But then again, I don't think anyone is accusing you of being an intellectual titan.

I think it's more a matter of Gary putting on the wrong set of knickers in the morning. For future reference Gary, the "string" part of the "G-String" goes in the back. Might lead to less irritation and a better mood.

Around the time we were buying a crib in late 2007(I believe) there were massive recalls on a certain brand of crib for this same reason. Our crib worked out fine, has the drop-side thing, although Kavi has not spent a lot of time actually sleeping in it. Hardly used it the first few months he was born. It's a terrifying thought though to think of people who have lost a baby to such an issue.
