Unfortunately some people do want everything handed to them without having to do any of the work or research themselves, which is just, in my opinion, not only lazy...

Thank God for lazy people or I wouldn't have a job. LOL All I do all day is answer questions that a person most of the time could have answered themselves had they taken the time to look ( which includes questions from the people I work with)

The cold, aged alley cat brigade is here too. ;)

That's what professionals are to be hired for. And yet I read post after post saying 'you don't need an attorney, you can do it all yourself!'.

Some people can't. Nothing wrong with that--I can't hang drywall for sh!t either.

I probably asked a lot of pointless questions as well when I first started researching.

When I first started reading all the forms and guides it felt like I was reading tax forms in spannish.

I was really appreciative for the help that I got even when it was dumb.

So thanks for those who were patient with me!!

I guess I'm going to side with the warm fuzzy kitty brigade here (Well, it works with my signature... :P ). I'm slightly on the defensive even if I'm not one of a thousand people who've done this. I'd like to think my questions were fair ones, and even if people think they're stupid, I'd rather ask to see if I'm right than assume I'm right and find out I'm not.

I know there's a few posts here and there that are nearly verbatim repeats, but there's a lot of things to consider here. One, this is really a huge forum. Lots of daily activity. Handfuls of new people every day. New situations for everyone. Special circumstances for lots of us. Just because you, who have been here for months (years for some of you), have seen a post 20 times, doesn't mean a new guy can find it. Yes, there's a search function, but it's strangely limited.

I tried searching for 'Affidavit of Support', and get an error message because it doesn't like the word 'of' being so short. Not to mention, even if you search for 'affadavit support', you get about a billion results, the first 20 which don't cover your question. At that point, you start to figure if you can't find it within 20 minutes of searching, you may as well just bite the bullet and type out the question, because it's only 5 minutes worth of work at most. Not everyone has time to hang out on the forums and read every topic every day, after all.

It doesn't help that people make incredibly vague topic names. I've been redirected in some of my questions to things with a topic name of HELP!!!!, among other things. How was I to know that HELP!!!! was actually another name for 'How to fill out question 5G of form blahblahblah when you have been divorced before in the state of nevada'?', or whatever my question could've been?

Yes, people should definately read the guides and the faqs and the instructions. Yes, some people skip that part and want all the work done for them. I have little sympathy for some people like that, depending on their attitude. However, I have a lot of common sense, and reading the forms for the first 50 times, they still didn't make sense. I think this is true for the majority of us, it's just that once we finally DO understand them, we seem to forget where we were months ago-- Lost and confused, the same way people get here every day. Heck, even now when I think I know exactly what to do, I have a habit of second guessing myself. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask and be certain. That being said, I've been scared off from posting here before because of attitudes like this. I have enough stress on my plate being apart from my fiance, I'd rather not have a group of angry VJ'ers calling me stupid for not knowing this 'common' answer.

People are coming across conflicting info in lots of places-- One of you just made that point in this thread. All the more reason for people to try to clear up a story. Hell, even the guides here on Visajourney can be a little confusing/conflicting and at times incorrect (For example, I remember coming across a thread pointing out that the guides for the K1 tell you the wrong place to put the passport photos.). I read in 40 places that I need to send two passport photos, then I read the forms and never see that put anywhere. Then comes the process of "Maybe I missed it", rereading it 50 times, and wondering where the hell I read the 2-photo-rule before. Was it the forums? The guides, the faqs? The instructions? Did my friend who got approved tell me this? Was it another site? The uscis site?

People are confused, hearing different things from different sites, different forums. I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt rather than ragging on them like they're helpless, lazy idiots. If it was as simple as 'reading the forms', sites like this would not exist, nor would they be as big and booming as they are. Immigration lawyers would not exist in the numbers they do.

I probably shouldn't reply to this as I'm really not interested in getting in one of the numerous arguements I've seen on these boards, but I figure I might as well chuck in my 5 cents. I'm personally just very thankful that visajourney exists and that there are some very patient people that don't mind answering my question, even if it's been answered 20 times before.
