Payment and shipping of the first package (I-130)

Hi! I am canadian and applying for my IR-1 with my american husband. He's out of the US for right now because of his job so he sent me everything so I could send the check and the papers (I-130, etc). So my question is, is it ok to get a money order from a federal canadian bank and send it?

Also, is it ok to send the package from my house address (Canada) or would it be better for him to send it? I thought I'd just write the "return to sender" address as his, just in case. For the next packages, he will be sending them.

Can anyone help me with this one, please?

If you are a Canadian applying for IR-1, then posting your topic in the K-1 fiance(e) visa general discussion forum is the wrong place to get an answer

moving thread

YMMV

From the instructions for the I-130 it states.

Use the following guidelines when you prepare your check or

money order for Form I-130:

1. The check or money order must be drawn on a bank or other financial institution located in the United States and must be payable in U.S. currency

One advantage to using a cheque rather than a money order is that you can track when it has been cashed and generally the receipt number on the back can help you track your case.

You can mail the package from wherever you wish but I found USPS much faster than Canada Post so I had my US spouse mail everything from there.

Good luck on your journey!

STRONGLY SUGGEST you add in this form, as well

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=d9056d4e88ac3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

when filing the I-130 - use HIS address on everything except the return address on the outside of the envelope (If sending from Canada).

Use the return address on the outside of the envelope, as YOUR address in Canada -

so the package will 'get through customs' without failing the '#######' test.

as for 'next packages' - no need, really, if doing NVC Electronic Processing (you qualify, is casefile bound for Montreal - see http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Electronic_Processing and show that link to yer husband) - he could send in documents, you could send in documents, regardless of 'location' or 'being in the USA'.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Whoa Nelly ! Want NVC Info? see http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Congratulations on your approval ! We All Applaud your accomplishment with Most Wonderful Kissies !
