Ok, so here's the deal:

my medical (vaccination review is booked Aug9/2010) as our marriage is July31/2010.

When I arrived on my K-1 we applied for my SSN. It has my maiden name on it. After we're married we'll change my name to his, meaning you have to go back to the SSN office but does your SSN # change because you're applying again with a new name?

I'm on his bank account as my maiden name w/ a debit card. I know I have to change that do we share the bank account w/ the same name- even though we share it and I don't have the same name at the moment. (Proof of relationship?)

Next, I have all the AOS papers filled out expect for the SSN number as noted above, and we've decided to wait to send them till after I get my new SSN # and have my medical/vaccination review completed.

I'm also on the apartment lease and all utilities are included so we don't have any extra utility bills that would have our names on them together.

We do have auto insurance, which I'm not on at the moment, will be after the wedding and I will also then get my US license.

Other then pictures, what else is needed?

Ok, so here's the deal:

my medical (vaccination review is booked Aug9/2010) as our marriage is July31/2010. The I-693 vaccination section can be done now.. doesn't need to be done after you're married...

When I arrived on my K-1 we applied for my SSN. It has my maiden name on it. After we're married we'll change my name to his, meaning you have to go back to the SSN office but does your SSN # change because you're applying again with a new name? No. And you might have some trouble changing your name. it's not a big deal to wait until you get your EAd or GC because you can't work without either of those anyway and the bank etc don't care what your SSN says

I'm on his bank account as my maiden name w/ a debit card. I know I have to change that do we share the bank account w/ the same name- even though we share it and I don't have the same name at the moment. (Proof of relationship?) this sentence doesn't make sense. I assume you mean does the account have to be in your married name. No it doesn't. My "proof" included when we first arrived and were engaged the joint account in maiden name then the switch to married name.

Next, I have all the AOS papers filled out expect for the SSN number as noted above, and we've decided to wait to send them till after I get my new SSN # and have my medical/vaccination review completed. there isn't a new SSN. The I-693 vaccination section can be done now.. doesn't need to be done after you're married...

I'm also on the apartment lease and all utilities are included so we don't have any extra utility bills that would have our names on them together.

We do have auto insurance, which I'm not on at the moment, will be after the wedding and I will also then get my US license. you might not be able t get a licence depending on how long you have left on your i-94 so find out about that first and don't bank on it

Other then pictures, what else is needed?

NO evidence of relationship is sent with the AOS package. That info is saved for the interview (if you have one, many people do not). Just send the documents in the AOS list in the thread in my signature.

As for what else.

- health insurance

- phone bills

- mail coming to same address

- affidavits of family and friends.

There are many threads asking the same qn. Have a look around or do a search using the search bar up near the top right of the page.

Thanks for your fast reply :)

As for my license, the state in IA requires you've been here just 30 days and have proof of an address (something mailed too you). I could have gotten my license a few days ago since I POE on June 19th. Anyhow, the bank DID need my SSN to get added to my fiancé's bank account. So I'll just do what you did, go in and change my name on the account using our marriage license.

Also, I thought the vaccinations were supposed to be completed with your new married name, hence that is why I booked it for Aug9th. When I called, he said it's best to do it after you're married so the file name doesn't need to be changed etc along with the paperwork.

Also, when I talked to the SSN officer at the office I went to, he said all I needed to do was fill in the SSN form again with my new name & have a certified copy of our marriage certificate, that is also what the court told me when I picked up our marriage license last week.

Licence in IA - you also need a proof of status document. They will require your I-94 and your licence will expire when the I-94 does. I've looked into it extensively 'cause I live here. Here's the foreign national part: http://www.iowadot.gov/MVD/ODS/foreign.htm there's also more somewhere that outlines WHAT USCIS they accept but basically it's the I-94, then the EAD and/or GC.

The vaccinations the doctor is wrong. It doesn't matter if it's in your maiden name but if you want to wait that's up to you.

The SSN yes that's all that's needed BUT if you read the threads about it people have been having issues with doing it. It's supposed to be just a simple thing, but some SSA officers make it harder than it has to be. One girl IS still waiting and was waiting over 2 months. Even after she got her EAD and should have had no issues, because she tried after her I-94 expired, and before she got the EAD, it was still "verifying" her identity with the DHS... p.i.t.a. Those that waited till they got their EAD however havent had issues. That's why I waited. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yah I've looked into my license a few days in a row trying to get it within a few weeks of getting to Iowa. So I know what's needed for that :D

I've already scheduled my appointment with the doctor, so I'll just wait- it's not a big deal.

As for the SSN, I'll go and see after the wedding what they say, if it seems like an issue then i will wait as well and fill in the papers with the SSN number I currently have. :)

Ok :D Forgot to mention. When I applied for AOS my SSN was still (and funnily enough still is.. we're fixing that either tomorrow or Monday) in my maiden name. My AOS was approved without issue even though I applied for AOS in my married name, and the SSN listed was in my maiden. Basically i'm just making sure you know that it being in the maiden name isn't an issue at all when filing AOS. The SSN remains the same for life. When you go back once you have the GC, they'll remove the "DHS authorisation required" part but that's the only difference between it, and the one you have already (if it wasn't the case there'd be a lot of ticked of people going around changing the SSN on their bank cards, insurance etc).

I want my licence so bad but by the time we moved to IA (my husband is from here but was in TX for school) my I-94 had expired and I had to wait for the EAD. I'm trying to decide where I want to go for the test. We live the same distance roughly to Davenport and Clinton. Everyones telling me Davenport is better because of the lack of one-way streets, but I think traffic would be worse... where are you going for yours? I've gotta locate a vehicle that'll pass the safety tests too (not as bad as it sounds.. for some reason the horns don't work in a lot of our cars...) might have to hire one for the day or something 'cause all my friends (and my husband) drive trucks and without me on the insurance I dread to drive and they might not insure me till I've got a learners permit... /sigh
