We did not have an interview. Just went in for biometrics.

About 10 days after that, we got the NOA that stated our case was sent to CSC.

Had the EAD and Green Card 6 weeks later...

well....we have our certified marriage documents, but we didn't do anything formal so we don't have wedding pictures. we are a genuine couple and there's nothing she couldn't answer about me and me about her as far as our relationship goes. she has a driving learner's permit with my house address on it. every document has my house address on it. She hasn't worked since she got here, and so I never made it a sole priority to get her on my bank account and with my work schedule, i really don't have time to add her before our interview. she's on my dental and health plans. hmm...am i leaving something else out?...

Hi, I had my AOS interview couple years ago mostly documents provided are cards, letters address to you and/or your wife. Just a note, provide copies since the CO will ask originals and photocopies to compare authenticity. If you have no copies they will keep the original documents. Here's what we provided during our interview in Washington DC.

  • Marriage Papers such us marriage license and certificate
  • greeting cards address to both names
  • letters address to both names (some are just my name showing our home address)
  • joint bank account summary
  • bills address to both
  • wedding pictures/ scrapbook/travel pictures/ travel itineraries including airlines (if any)
  • passport and any govt issued ID (had my state ID and SSN card)
  • phone bills showing both our phone numbers
  • utility bills
  • W2 and other IRS paperwork
  • insurance policy showing beneficiary
  • paycheck (surprisingly, the consul asked for it am glad I brought some with me)

questions asked:

---- The consul gave each of us a questionnaire, mostly personal information (CO compared our answers) about your spouse such as:

  • Date of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • Date of Marriage
  • Children if any
  • Previous marriage if any
  • Home Address
  • What time does hubby/wife go to work
  • How far is work from home
  • Where does hubby/wife work (company and City)
  • What was your dinner last night?
  • Did you have dinner together?

Hope that helps. Our CO was nice and friendly she looked at every page in our album and the captions. She even read the cards in our scrapbook. After that she printed an approval letter for me and a reminder letter when to apply for removing condition, she even highlighted the dates.

A couple additional tips:

1. Make sure your wife answers no to all the questions asked by Immigration Officer as he/she reads from Part 3.on the I-485. (ie. seems like common sense, but nerves and English comprehension can be a factor)

2. Pictures of me with my asawa'a (spouse's) parents and me with hers went well during our interview.

Bummer! First thing the AO asked us for was the wedding pictures! We forgot to bring some. But, we passed, even after I had to check with the wife for the date we got married.

I think if you are genuine, and bring everything required, you will do okay. For the USC, proof of income is the bottom line. It seemed like I was on the hot seat this time. But, I was able to show plenty of income, and that seemed to ease his concerns.

The whole interview maybe took five minutes. At the end, he got all serious, and asked for the wife's EAD. He then destroyed it. Then he stood up, smiled, shook our hands, and said, "Congratulations, you are approved as of today."
