I am US citizen and filed F4 Brother and Sister priority date Oct 1, 2001. In August 2010, the priority date for F4 will be June 1, 2001. It is only 4 months to go. My brother and family in Hong Kong are not ready to US yet, and my quesions are how long the 4 months priority date to come or how much time for him to interview and required to come to US? My brother and his wife are teachers, and contacted to July 2011, please advise if they can file postpone for the intervew? or delay the interview process? Please help.

Thank you for any advices.

You should be fine; it takes about 6 months from when the priority date becomes current to get the interview, and then they'll have 6 months to use it. You can easily postpone the interview a few months by dragging your feet in sending back documents.

You have up to 1 year to return documents to NVC, during NVC processing. Surely that's enough to plan , yes?

If not - hei !

Once the appointment is set - they can request later interview date. (2 to 4 months)

and then

after visa in hand, still have 6 months to arrive in USA.

so - if you need 20 to 22 months more, it's available, but you need to plan yer calendar.

No calendar, you say? MAKE ONE !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thank you for your reply... that means from the date when the quota is available to the date of leaving HK would be from 6 months up to 22 months? Please correct me if I am wrong.

uhm - sorta kinda - maybe?

I do mean from the time NVC has assigned a case # , at NVC, to 'jump on the plane'.

Short Long Event

-----------------------

35 365 *NVC Processing

2 90 NVC to HKG, HKG open casefile

12 40 *P4 Processing at HKG

10 60 *Interview Date

10 180 *Time before leave HKG

----------------------------------------

69 735 Days Total

*= Things you can control

To see the formatting, reply, then copy/paste out to notepad or something similar.

This is an estimate, based on my menial mentat-powers of data-gisting.
