Agreed... It would be like someone who has only watched a porno as saying they know all about sex.... seeing something on TV does not equate to knowing about it... it equates to having seen someones representation of things... media spin...

Most in the US live in little bubbles and have no awareness of life outside thier bubble... and dont care about anything outside that bubble either...

I am surprised how stupid some people are and how they can survive from one day to the next in the US... oddly enough they are too stupid to realize how stupid they are...

I think the best thing a country can do is have their citizens travel abroad. As I said earlier, young adults and even adults in AUS, love to travel and experience the world. Asia, Middle East, Africa, South America, Europe and North America. It's also why we are doing so well because people in influential positions can identity things others are doing well and basically emulate them. Not to mention., it's quite fun to see and experience the world.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Do Americans really know anything about the world? I am being serious here. I think 30% of Americans now have passports, versus about 60 to 80 elsewhere.

As pike pointed out a while back regarding the local news, international stories are basically non-existent, yet are an integral part of the news back in AUS or abroad.

I can only imagine what the news is about in LA. Reporting live from studio 1 Sandy, Paris like had a bad hair day today. The hills was like such a great episode; back to you Patrick..

So what's the point? It is OUR news that the world watches. Betcha they have CNN in Australia. But if it makes you feel batter, more than half my "local" stations are from Canada and only two are in English. Oh, and I have a passport, I also travel internationally several times every week, own property (paid for in full) in Ukraine and speak 2-1/3 languages. So what? Does that make me smarter than IndigoSkies? NO. What makes me smarter is that I am educated and understand that racism is what is driving the need to have an underclass of brown people, not as dark brown as our previous underclass, but they will do.

You don't but without any international exposure, you'd be hard pressed to know anything about the world. The number of people I have meet here who have barely left their county or city let alone state or country speaks volumes. It's also why I was asked if I visited the US by train or at what age English is taught as a second language in AUS.

Charles no offense but middle America and Texas is probably the worst offenders. It's also why you have geniuses like Spook thinking the US is the envy of the world.

we have these neat things called books. one does not need a passport to read, you know?

ranting about one must have a passport and travel to be more worldly sounds suspiciously like something alex once said.

So Mexico is doing it to improve their country? They will improve when they learn to speak English like other propsperous countries. But I agree with you that Australia should encourage its citizens to travel abroad, learn about other ways of life and return to improve Australia. Kind of like a hoard of Aussie "Borats". When will you be returning to improve things in Aussie land? In fact, I think you could markedly improve living conditions in BOTH countries by moving back.

Dude, at least move to a libertarian-esque state and the come talk to me about moving. Like certain others, you enjoy the perks of these liberal states but beat on about Lonnytarianism and low taxes.

Which "liberal" perks do I enjoy? When I speak of taxes, it is about FEDERAL taxes. How does that have anything to do with states or which one I live in? The people of the states should decide whatever taxes they want for their state. This thread is not about taxes nor which state I live in. You have no ammunition so you start throwing rocks. There's a new development.

I was responding to, and agreeing with you that Australia benefits by sending its citizens abraod and then getting them back. If you don't go back you are hurting Australia, Booyah. Think of how much better they will be when you return and make fun of Americans and their lack of passports from down under!

Actually I have compared crime, Q.O.L, laws, system of government and attitude towards government.

This thread is about 'stupid people' being scared of the rest of the world, which based on your posts, clearly applies to you. Heck you cannot even accept the reality of others doing something better than you. In fact, it's why you went on a rampage regarding Toyota, just to prove your shitty cars are not #######. If corvettes are the best in the world, then why doesn't any other country by them or want them Now can the same be said for a Ferrari or AUDIs? Why do you think that is oh worldly wise one?

When did I ever say that Corvettes were the best cars in the world? I said that the ZR1 outperformed everything at twice it's price, and you corrected me and showed me a Porsche that beat it by .01 second and only cost $75,000 more. Your the one with the Gucci shoes trying to impress people, not me. You're anti-American and that's that. But the reason you are is simple, jealously. I posted what I did about Toyota as a jab at idiots like you who think they are infallible. You really are dumb.

I thought ignorance was bliss.

Ignorance is different from studpidity I would say. Nobody is completely uninformed or ignorant, just misinformed. People's actions are always fueled by some kind of philosophy in life. Take the tea party people for example they aren't ignorant or unaware, just misinformed. However, stupidity is more like an incapability or refusal to change views in spite of solid evidence, take the tea party people again, some are incapable of leaving their racist nativist views behind, and others simply refuse, that is stupidity.

Random? Yes, but this forum is called "Off-Topic" =).
