I don't get the point of the whole birthers argument. Is there not better things to debate re: Obama? Policies, for example? Why throw a red herring out that will distract everyone from the real issues of the day?

When does he say "my father?" Because in the video I watched, he said his own name right before saying "elected President of the United States." Was his father president too?

The point is to declare Obama invalid because he was born abroad and therefore, not a USC. Since he's not a USC, he can't be president.

And someone needs to explain to me (I don't mean to sound snotty, I really am not up on the natural born laws) how he is not a natural born citizen? His mother was a USC, was she not? Does that not make him natural born, regardless of where he was physically born?

If a child is born abroad it has to be registered with the consulate or embassy to be declared a USC. It's not automatic. Obama was never registered. He presented a certificate of live birth (not to be confused with a birth certificate) from Hawaii but it's unknown whether he was actually born in Hawaii or if he was born in Kenya and then later a certificate was made for him later.

By and large, the "Birthers" are those who simply can't get over the fact that we have a black president.

Either that or they can't get past the fact the American public is so stupid and gullable they'd elect a non-USC to the position of president even after he refused to release his birth certificate.

Remember, this is the same guy that admitted to using cocaine and being a smoker. He'd been a Senator for all of ten minutes and not done much else before that. Yet, he was elected by a pretty large margin. "The people" could've cared less who he was or where his citizenship came from. All they really cared about was that he wasn't George Bush.

Personally, I don't think Obama is a bad dude nor are any of our government officials. I think they honestly got into politics and many of them are doing what they feel is the right thing for our country. What I think is wrong is "the people" do not hold their government accountable and that enables some politicians to become more worried about lobbyists and campaigns than their constituency. That is what's wrong with politics today.

Do I care if Obama was really born in Hawaii? I'd like to know but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it because he IS the president. However, if I was placed in his chain of command and asked to die on his order, I'd probably be a little more concerned. The fact that our servicemen may be following orders of a commander in cheif who is a foreigner is somewhat disconcerting to me. But, since I'm not a serviceman anymore.... I'll just do what I can to make sure they're only following his orders for another two years.
