My wife used to live in a small village near the Himalayan mountains in India. She lived there from birth till about 24.

After marriage my wife formally changed her maiden name to my last name.

However the entire time that she was living in her birth town, she was (obviously) using her birth (maiden) name.

Which name should the PCC from her birth town/region display?

Common sense says to only mention her maiden name - because that is the correct name for the police report in that region. Everyone in that region will know her by her maiden name, and she lived there under her maiden name.

However since she has now changed her last name, does that police report need to make any mention of her new legal name? If so what would be an example of how it should read?

I would like to know this as well as my wife is going to change her name on the passport. WHat i would think is have it with the name u submit the DS230 form with. And also submit an affidavit saying that both names are for the same person. I plan on doing this once i get my approval. Just my two cents.

Anyone else go through this and have any inputs.

Ok so I called the National Visa Center to get some clarification on this stuff.

They told me since my wife was interviewing in New Delhi that they only need the Police Certificate from New Delhi to be sent in. They do not need it from the other location she used to live in because she has never lived outside India, currently lives in New Delhi and will interview in New Delhi.

They did however mention that the certificate should provide clearance for ALL names ever used by my wife.

I dont know how correct this information that NVC gave you is, My husband also interviewed in NWD and he was required to have both PCC's... he also only lived right outside of Delhi in Bhadugardgh his whole life..

I assume that the worst thing that could happen if you dont recieve it would be that they would issue and RFE in NVC or they would put you on AP if they need it at the interview stage

As far as the name on the PCC I think you are thinking to much... on the forms it asked about a maiden name.. and I am sure that you put her maiden name on the I-130, DS-230 etc... sooo I believe that they can cross reference..

Just my 2 cents

Hi!

I wanted to know a few things regarding Police Clearence in Mumbai India.

When I go for a police clearence should I get it from passport office or from crime branch because the procedures for both are different? Bad news is it can take upto 45 days for either of them.

Also in India, to recieve a Police Clearence Certificate(PCC) do we need any letter or proof to ask them to give us the PCC or any one can go and apply for PCC? I am asking about Mumbai PCC since my spouse is in Mumbai India. Do any one know how many days it takes to obtain a PCC in Mumbai?

My spouse has a new passport less then 4 months. Do we still need a PCC? If so where do we go to apply? Is it in Worli? Please inform.

Mr. India 1978, I am not an expert here but my logic thinking says that since you are living in mumbai, you should get ur PCC from mumbai. They clearly mentioned that if u lived for more then 6 onths then you need a pcc from there......

Thanks.
