GLOSSY PASSPORT PHOTO REQUIREMENTS

I have been to 3 locations to have my photos taken and they either don't have glossy paper, or they got the dimensions of the photo wrong. This is going to be the death of me!

I finally just went to Sam's Club and got my passport photos done (great price too! 6 photos for $14). Thing is, they printed it on matte paper and they do not have a glossy photo option for passport pictures. Do you think this will be acceptable? I know the instructions state "glossy photos"... has anyone had their photos returned by USCIS because they were matte finish?

THANKS for the help and feedback!!!! This is the last step for me before sending out my AOS packet!

I printed my photos at home and used this website to get the right dimensions:

So far I had no problem, they accepted my photos.

There's a gazillion places you can get passport photos done. Many post offices, and many UPS stores will take passport style photos. The UPS store I went to had an old Polaroid camera specifically designed for taking passport photos. It has two lenses, and takes two photos simultaneously on the same piece of Polaroid film. Of course, like all old Polaroids, the photos are glossy. Talk about "old school"! :o

Or, you can just take your own photos, size them in Photoshop, and print them on glossy photo paper. They aren't going to directly use the photos you send them anyway. I'm assuming this is for an AOS petition (because of the forum you posted it in). The photo they use on the green card is the one they take during the biometrics appointment. If it's for an actual passport, they scan your photo and print it on the bio page of the passport, and then laminate the page with a holographic film. The photos you send get scanned into a computer database, and then just go into a paper file, probably never to be looked at again.

I wouldn't sent matte finish photos. They tend to look too soft when scanned.

Thanks everyone! I did check out EPassportphoto.com and went thru the whole process.. thought I could print em myself but turns out you have to order them. ugh.

I am just gonna go with these matte photos from Sams and I will keep my fingers crossed.. I know it would be safer to go with the requested requirements but I am hoping they will overlook this detail..

Thanks everyone! I did check out EPassportphoto.com and went thru the whole process.. thought I could print em myself but turns out you have to order them. ugh.

You can save the photos without ordering them. Anyway, I think you will be fine ^^

In the event that you do have to re-take your photos (I hope not), you can try asking Sam's Club if they will retake photos for no charge in the event that photos are rejected due to a mistake on the part of Sam's Club.

For example, I went to Sears Portrait Studio for passport photos (for Canadian passport). There was too much shadowing on the face so I had the photos redone at a later date. I returned with the photos and receipt, explained to the staff member, and was told that there would be no charge for a redo.

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
