Almost every company orders its employees to not speak to the media and to direct all media queries to the legal/pr department. This is nothing new. Why are you guys singling out BP because they're doing what every other company in America does. I'm sure most of you are employeed. Go read the contract you signed when you joined. It will state that you cannot talk to the media or something to that effect.

Also, taking photos were banned from within certain reasonable perimeter of the vessels, booms, etc. This is a reasonable banning for safety and security. Just like you can't walk into the lobby of Pentagon and start snapping pictures. There are a lot of reason to criticise the government and BP. But your knee jerk criticism are only painting yourself as lunatic mad-dogs. People listen to you still but soon when they realise you're alarmist and without substance, your going to be marginalised and noone will listen to you.

Don't trample of BP because it's a British company. Trample on it because it failed to contain this spill. It could've been Exxon or Shell (I hope these are American companies.) Have a bit of sanity, people.

I'm not jumping on anyone - just stating a fact. And yes, having worked in public affairs for a government agency for almost 10 years, I do not allow anyone to speak to the press without me being there to listen in - why, CYA. Aside from that, I do not want the media's vessels to be out there taking pictures and such when they could knock over sensitive boom or various containment projects. If the media chooses to take a gander, film it from above or coordinate with a the coast guard, BP, or a wildlife rescue to film with them.

I was thinking about it and you guys are right, we certainly don't need to block people taking photos of the peopleofwalmart.com, as I like to see those happy Americans Spook always talks about. I also realized the moral decline of the US seems to coincide with the rise of crapmart.

It just amazes me how you guys don't allow your government to do their jobs and actually think they are the enemy but allow the private sector [or people] to do whatever they please, regardless of the consequences to others. Something that is certainly not the case in most other first world countries. We certainly don't allow fools to follow the police and take photos of them, yet it be illegal to step 100 feet from a CEO. Evidently the country has its priorities wrong and the severe shafting for your average America and the state of the country in 2010 speaks for itself.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Because you should be able to do you job than play silly games with opportunist seeking to cash in on photos.

perhaps you should watch the video before running your mouth/fingers. This is a CNN report...

1) Nowhere in the whole video is the word "Obama" mentioned. This is the Coast Guard making rules.

2) You are pulling the Fox News angle on the story by blaming Obama. "Obama tells media they may not film the Gulf Coast" is the title of YOUR thread.

3) Anderson Cooper is whining that they have to stay 20 yards away from cleanup booms. Cry me a river. It's common sense to keep people away from the equipment. You can take a perfectly good picture of oil booms from 65 feet away.

4) My bad on calling it Fox News -- I was at work when I saw your thread, and work blocks Youtube. The source is really irrelevant, but what is relevant is that you are turning "Coast Guard makes a rule that folks have to stay 65 feet away from oil booms" into "Obama suspends first amendment, usurps all power, turns USA into marxist state". Seriously. Your thread title makes it sound like President Obama signed an executive order to evict all members of the press from coastal states, but what really happened is the Coast Guard said that people should stay away from cleanup equipment by a whopping 65 feet. So Anderson Cooper won't be able to reach down from his row boat and dramatically wipe his fingertips against the oil boom to show the oil in a closeup. Again -- cry me a river.

You're one of those people who can't stand Obama. Great, fine. That's fantastic and that's your absolute right. But don't go around warping reality to suit your agenda. That's just irresponsible and more than a little pathetic, frankly.

And for the record, I am not some leftfield liberal, just a person who is fed up with all the fake rhetoric that both parties have been throwing around for the past 15 or so years, but has become a lot more common since Obama got elected.
