And I thought there was no crime there. :o

AN 86-year-old woman who was attacked in her Glenroy home has refused to let the violent assault get her down.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, said a man knocked on her door just before 1pm, claiming he needed water for his car.

The man followed the elderly woman into her house, grabbed her by the back of the neck and threw her to the ground.

"I went over to the sink to fill up a container for him and then his hand went down to my throat and he threw me to the floor," the victim said.

"I hit my head on the tiles in the kitchen.

"He said he wanted money and I said 'I've got $20, you can have it'.

"Then I told him my son was in the backyard planting a tree and he ran away."

The victim said she was disgusted by the man's actions, but vowed that she wouldn't let him take away her independence.

"I feel disgust towards him. Why would he do that to me?" she said.

"But this won't stop me. I never let anything get beyond me and I won't let him stop me."

The victim was released from the Northern Hospital in Epping tonight.

The intruder was described as aged in his 40s, about 170cm tall, of Caucasian appearance, solid build and dark hair.

He wore a red and tallow top and khaki pants and drove a dirty yellow or orange car.

It would be nice argument if anyone had actually ever said what you claim. Nevertheless, the same case here would have involved them being killed. That is the difference my good Bostonian friend.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You said things like this don't happen in Australia, but evidently they do.

Old lady must be blind. Dude was Lebanese, f'sho.

Actually Epping does have a large number of a certain group and is renowned for crime by them.

I said that? Where?

As similarly pointed out by others regarding the UK versus the US, the type of crime and level of crime differs greatly. A few guys punching on after a night at the pub is quite different to the daily shootings in Chicago. Likewise, had the same type of robbery taken place here, as usually the case, someone would have been reported as being killed.

Unfortunately, things like this happen everywhere.

True, but the difference here is that the victim is usually killed.

I just don't understand why you guys fail to accept the differences in crime rates. You yourself have said Boston has no-go zone. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but no such places exist in Melbourne or Sydney. Sure there are rough areas but you certainly won't get killed or shot to death. Whereas, crime is widespread and chronic here.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
