hi all

am new to this forum and am working on adjusting my status from F1 to LPR. I just completed the medical and incidentally anyone in the dallas area requiring a reasonably priced civil surgeon, Dr Alfonso Ramirez it cost about $200 although i had to get a chest xray that came back negative.

I have two questions:

1. I keep seeing the term "certified copy of your certified marriage certificate" what is this? i.e is that a notarized copy of the marriage certificate or do i need to request more copies of the actual marriage certificate from the county office.

2. My tb skin test was positive but the chest x-ray was negative (probably due to the BCG vaccine if what i am told is true) and so i refused to take the tb medication seeing that the chest x-ray was clear. Does anyone know if i will have future problems with the USCIS due to declining the medication? i.e.will i have any problems is my LPR application?

Thanks all

#1 - I think if you make a copy of the one you got from the county office, that should work. We did that, and haven't had any problems. Someone can correct me if they've had trouble with it before. We're just going to be sure to take the original with us to the interview.

#2 - No, you should be fine. My husband (also from Zim) had the same thing (and I'm assuming most everyone from Africa/Asia, where the BCG vaccine is prevalent), and everyone says that's fine. As long as the x-ray is clear, you should be good to go.

The certified copy is the piece of paper you get from the town or city hall. It has a raised seal on it and already comes certified.

You can keep this "certified copy" for yourself and just send a xerox copy of it. You can order an extra "certified copy" from the town hall for a fee. Mine was $5 each or something like that, so I just ordered a bunch of extras and sent one with my application.

Don't think you need to, but it doesn't cost too much to get an extra if you do want to :)

If chest x-ray is negative, you should be fine

A certified copy is a copy from the office.

They stamp and sign each copy, you can ask as many as you want and usually the price is around $2.

I haven't filed my package yet, so I don't have experience on making a photocopy of the copy I got, but I figure it isn't that hard to make things right. If you're already going there, might as well get 4 copies of it.

A "certified copy" is a copy which was certified by the clerk of courts as being a true copy of the original document. As long as it's got the court clerk's certification stamp on it, then it's a certified copy. You send a photocopy of the certified copy to USCIS. Bring the original to the interview, just in case they ask to examine it.

The civil surgeon should have given you a copy of the I-693. Look at part 2, section 4. Did he/she check off the boxes for normal results, and no class A or B TB? If so, then you are fine.
