Hello everyone, I got my K-1 approved last month (yay!)and is planning on coming back to the States in September. I was an international student in the States and i have applied for a social security number on my student visa. So my question is, do i need to go to the social security office to notice them of my new K-1 status, or should i go to the office once i have married and have my name changed and everything?

I am so confused and worry about the whole AOS process...any advise would help!! thanks:)

I would just wait until you are married and have your name changed.

Even then I have heard that they might not change your name until they verify your name with DHS (Dept of Homeland Security)

Some people have been told they can't change name/status until they have the green card/AOS approved.

I got my social through being on F-1 status also, and I'm just going to wait to deal with Social Security after I have my green card.

That way I can change my name and get the restriction removed at the same time (the 'valid for work with DHS authorization only' restriction)

Congrats on getting your K-1 approved, and good luck with your AOS!!
