Aww...

Buying a new car is too expensive, more people would buy a new car if they could afford it. I guess the answer is that everyone should just steal a new car because they deserve the best car someone else can afford.

Yeah I'm the only non racist liberal here I guess. But, thats why we have the ACLU to help sue in any possible discriminatory situations such as the AZ law. And luckly the government has a filed a lawsuit

Its not that easy to come to the usa the legal way, thats the problem. More people would be legal if they could afford it , and the process was not so convoluted. Mexico is poor, people leave there to come here to make money to give their families better lives

You cant say you would not do the same for your family, especially if you couldn't afford to support your family in your own country.

How the hell can you call anyone in this forum racist when everyone here is in an interracial relationship.

There are Hispanics who are bigoted towards Blacks, just as there are Japanese who are bigoted towards Chinese and vice versa (WWII era). Even among Filipinos, there are some light skinned, Spanish-blooded Filipinos who are bigoted towards the darker skinned Filipinos. I would agree that the term 'racism' gets misused to really mean bigotry or prejudice. Racism is typically reserved to describe someone who truly believes their ethnicity is 'racially superior' to another's, whereas bigotry (intolerance towards people who are different) can be more of a cultural attitude. As for whether racism is a factor that fuels the immigration debates - it is a fact that White Supremest groups have been funding legislation such as SB1070 through groups such as NumbersUSA and FAIR, as fronts. They fear of the 'browning' of America, and their ultimate goal is to drastically reduce all immigration in this country. There are lot of angry Americans frustrated with this economic recession and are looking for a scapegoat. Many of them find a scapegoat in the millions of undocumented workers that have come here from Mexico.

They bring in crime, drugs, poverty, over burden the public schools, the hospitals, and they even over burden the power grids.

All unsubstantiated claims that originate from groups like NumbersUSA and FAIR. You've just bought into their lies.

Just as you don't believe the numbers reported from many organizations because of potential bias how can we believe many of your sources who may be potentially bias the other way. Let us be fair, it is a same from both camps. If you try to find research that is potentially neutral it becomes a daunting exercise.

U.S. Government Accountability Office (1994 data).

GAO found that: (1) there are limited data on California's illegal alien population's size, use of public services, and tax payments and a lack of consensus on the appropriate methodologies, assumptions, and data sources to use in estimating the costs and revenues for illegal aliens in California; (2) using the most reasonable assumptions, it adjusted California's revised estimates on the costs of elementary and secondary education and adult incarceration for illegal aliens; (3) while its overall adjusted cost estimate of $2.35 billion agreed with the state's revised estimate, the component estimates differed; (4) the estimates of revenues attributable to illegal aliens ranged from $500 million to $1.4 billion, but data limitations prevented it from judging the reasonableness of the revenue estimates; and (5) although the Urban Institute has attempted to standardize and improve states' methodologies for estimating illegal aliens' costs to the public, many differences still remain that will require further consensus.

So we have:

Factoring high on revenue estimates the state brings in: $1.4 billion

Elementary, secondary school, incarceration of costs of illegals: $2.35 billion

Net loss to State: $950 million

We have not even addressed health care, welfare, colleges, and other misc. programs.

Los Angeles Times

You can not find a more immigration-loving leftest newspaper in the country. They do have an excellent series on the war going on down in Mexico

There were 2.8 million illegal immigrants living in California in 2006, the last year for which there are relatively good figures, according to the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California. That represented about 8% of the state's population and roughly a quarter of the nation's illegal immigrants. About 90% of California's illegal immigrants were from Latin America; 65% from Mexico.

There are roughly 19,000 illegal immigrants in state prisons, representing 11% of all inmates. That's costing $970 million during the current fiscal year. The feds kick in a measly $111 million, leaving the state with an $859 million tab.

Schools are the toughest to calculate. Administrators don't ask kids about citizenship status. Anyway, many children of illegal immigrants were born in this country and automatically became U.S. citizens.

If you figure that the children of illegal immigrants attending K-12 schools approximates the proportion of illegal immigrants in the population, the bill currently comes to roughly $4 billion. Most is state money; some local property taxes.

The state is spending $775 million on Medi-Cal healthcare for illegal immigrants, according to the legislative analyst. Of that, $642 million goes into direct benefits. Practically all the rest is paid to counties to administer the program. The feds generally match the state dollar-for-dollar on mandatory programs.

So-called emergency services are the biggest state cost: $536 million. Prenatal care is $59 million. Not counted in the overall total is the cost of baby delivery -- $108 million -- because the newborns aren't illegal immigrants.

The state also pays $47 million for programs that Washington does not require: Non-emergency care (breast and cervical cancer treatment), $25 million; long-term nursing home care, $19 million; abortions, $3 million.

There also are other taxpayer costs -- especially through local governments -- but those are the biggies for the state. Add them all up and the state spends well over $5 billion a year on illegal immigrants and their families.

Of course, illegal immigrants do pay state taxes. But no way do they pay enough to replenish what they're drawing in services. Their main revenue contribution would be the sales tax, but they can't afford to be big consumers, and food and prescription drugs are exempt.

I like this thread. I enjoy watching all of the chest-thumping and flag-waving. I'm still waiting for some of you guys to trot out your mom and her apple pie!

Forget for a minute that this law won't pass muster even with a conservative Supreme Court. Instead, keep in mind that this law won't slow down the illegals to any measurable degree, and that most local law enforcement doesn't want to have anything to do with it. They don't have the time nor the resources to care about the difference between I-10 and an I-94. And for some cops, reasonable suspicion = brown skin. :bonk:

As for other delusions...there will never be enough boots on the ground to patrol the border. Americans would not pay what it would cost to secure the border. As for the visa overstays...good luck on that one too. There will never be enough boots on the ground to put a dent in their numbers either.

How about a mandatory e-verify system and some heavy fines and jail time for employers who hire the illegals? And for you deeper thinkers, how about NAFTA and the half million Mexican farmers it put out of business? Do you think they are going to let their families starve?

OK...back to flag-waving and chest-thumping!

Yes indeed. Take away the incentive to come over.

When someone is living in a one room shack, with a dirt floor, and all he hears is how the streets in America are paved with gold, he will have the incentive to come to the promised land.

And when the employers stop hiring them they will return home empty handed and that myth will end...

Sorry Bud,

This is what I have seen with my own eyes in the town I grew up in Irving Texas. Lived there for over 40 years had to recently move since it has become a sancturay for Illegals. They have Fvcked up the city and the community and the neighborhoods.

ICE had a officer stationed in the Irving Jail and they were turning over Illegals to ICE, but ICE told Irving to stop turning over Illegal unless they have commited a felony

Personal impressions are merely anecdotal and prove nothing. I was born in raised in the Phoenix area where there are a lot of Hispanics as well. In fact, my grandfather was a customs agent along the border in Sasabe, Nako and Nogales. Our family has had a lot of experience around Hispanics and I can tell you we never feared for our lives or believed that their presence here was wreaking havoc on our quality of life in any way, but again its anecdotal.

Fundamentally, there is no distinction between undocumented and documented immigrants in terms of their economic impact. They work, pay taxes and are consumers all the same. But if you don't believe me, you can take a look at this from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas' report on U.S. Immigration and Economic Growth: Putting Policy on Hold.

The economic contributions of immigrants are enormous. With immigrants filling such a significant share of job openings, it is clear the pace of U.S. employment growth is closely tied to the pace of immigration.

Immigration policy not only determines how effectively the United States can compete for foreign workers but also their socioeconomic progress after they have arrived. Both aspects are important to future economic growth. Both also require these policies to be implemented, not just left to languish.
