I am realistic about this and doubt it will pass. Eight states is great but until you get to at least around 32 states it won't make any difference.

I am just hoping it will be the start in causing a serious change in how we deal with immigration.

I am hoping it will make Texas secede from the USA and become a Republic once again, and then other states will follow Texas.

Then we can have another Civil War in the USA.

Why do you hate Mexicans?

Mexican Nationals here on 'EWI' ? Or some other 'demographic' ? I rarely talk / write about Mexican Nationals, I always spew about illegal aliens. Perhaps yer making a stretch, in some attempt to start an argument with me ?

Actually Illegal Alien is just that any undocumented immigrant which is an illegal status. Undocumented immigrant = Illegal Immigrant = Illegal Alien

Illegal Alien is the preferred term of those who oppose any amnesty program because to many open border activists or pro amnesty(no matter what political spectrum they are from) try to twist words by calling them immigrants.

Leegal Alien can be Canadian, Pakastani, Indian, Scottish, Irish, British, Mexican, Ecudoran, Brazilian......the list goes on.

It is the proamnesty/open border activist who are insisting the term means only Mexican; no one has ever stated it only means mexican.;)

Ya, I'm all for that, absolutely ! Been lots of improvements and advancements with automation this century, as applied to USCIS and namechecks. Would love to see the 'queue time' almost reduced to 'a few weeks' - but even with eyeball review? Still will be some queue, I think so.

My apologies if it seemed I was a bit cranky. 'Immigrant' label gets used improperly much, in the press. Yer foreign love, as well as mine, wears that label of 'immigrant'. I hope you can be incensed when illegal aliens are being 'considered' for amnesty, ya? As our loved ones (and us) are doing it the legal way. To 'lump' yer lass and mine into the same pot, IMO, is a great dis-service to the English Language, not to mention how degraded I feel about any 'immigrant issues' - when in fact, is 'illegal aliens' unlawful presence in the USA' - which shouldn't be some issue for debate - yet.. it is..

I'm not gonna belabour this point, further, as I feel I'm somehow hijaaking this particular thread in the Philippines forum. All I say about 'this', really - is that I think it's a shame that a Philippino Organization in the USA is taking exception to the AZ law going into effect on the 29th of July. It's almost as IF that organisation is supporting 'illegal aliens' unlawful presence in the USA' - surely that's not the case, yes? no ?

If you knew the Filipino community, you would know it is hard for a group of Filipinos to agree on anything. Our local Filipino community center has a half dozen or so organizations affiliated with the center, and if you ever went to a board meeting, your would be amazed that anything ever gets decided! Even the most trivial matters require thorough discussions, and rarely come to a satisfactory conclusion.

So, I am sure there is a plethora of opinions on this issue, as there is on any issue.

but but but... I DO KNOW THE Filipino Community, verra well ! At least the various groups in Dallas and Houston... I thought this was a 'national organisation', though, that condemned the AZ law ?

The bigger problem, that I have, though - with this statement (back in post 0) is this -

Even citizens and legal immigrants caught not carrying proof of their U.S. legal status could be charged as felons.

No one will be charged. They will be detained until their immigration status is checked. No one will be charged with a felony based on 'the stop' - they'd only be charged with WHAT the stoppable offense was, maybe, if it all, and then !! the immigration status is checked whilst they are detained. No Status? They're to be handed over to ICE.

Where the @#$@$ is this 'felony charge' in the AZ LAW? IMO, the 'writer' of that piece decided to use 'charged' language, hoping to incite a riot.

Maybe the people who are against the "breathing while brown" law have a different understanding of "reasonable suspicion" than you do. Of course, to other people, rights are only important when their own are being violated.
