Visa interview

I just got packet 4. For those of you interested, Lima just decided to up the interview fee from $131 to $350. Yay.

I have a couple of questions, though. After quickly reading the included paperwork I found two contradictions.

1. On the cover letter there is an interview date almost 1.5 months from now, which seems to long! But elsewhere in the packet it says something like (this is my translation) "As soon as you have gathered all necessary documents...sign and return this page. You will be given and interview date as soon as possible."

So which is it? Hurry up to get things together and get an interview date, or assume that the interview will be on the date that is given?

2. There is a form 179 and my fiancee is instructed to send it in immediately, and then is instructed to include it with the other documentation when everything is ready.

Which is it? Or should I send in the lone form 179 now and then attach an identical copy when I send in the letter that says I have everything together? Or should I try to send in everything now and postpone the interview if for some reason I'm not able to get the medical stuff done in time?

Thanks.

OUCH! that's a pretty penny

The interview date on your letter is your interview date. Don't mail any of the paperwork back, just bring it with you to the interview. I don't know why their paperwork is so screwed up, but it is. All our documents said to send them in, but then when we got there, they wanted us to hand them to them

Lima didn't up the fee, the entire DOS upped the fee. Anyone interviewing after June 4, 2010 is now required to pay $350. Why they more than doubled the fees I do not know, but that's the new fee for everyone, regardless of country.

You send back the CHECKLIST, stating that you have all of your documents ready, NOT the documents themselves. Hope that helps. It IS very confusing, and there are lots of contradicting forms and instructions in this process.
