Sugary Drinks Banned in San Francisco

I survived the McDonalds and Lucky Charms ads as a kid... and even survived tobacco *gasp* and alcohol ads as well. Watched all the kids shows that had sugar food advertising.

Parents today are just flat-out lazy.

There's a different mentality in parents today versus the previous generation, the one before that, etc. I clearly saw the difference in the under-classes behind me when I was in high school and then have watche them gradually get worse over the years... It's not the advertising, it's not the culture, it's the parenting. It's the "my baby can do whatever he or she wants and no one is going to tell them otherwise, not even me" attitude...

You have all the studies that prove this right? You have no idea what you are talking about. I have never seen the attitude you claim is so pervasive among parents. I do not doubt that it exists, but I know it has always existed amongst a TINY MINORITY of parents. You have such 'old man' attitudes, which is funny as you are just out of diapers.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Not fat, carbs, and evidently, not all carbs. Soda carbs bad, but fruit juice carbs okay. Cow milk carbs bad, but soy milk okay.

I doubt what is available now in vending machines is anything I personally would choose, but that doesn't make the choices of the San Fran government any more or less ideologically sound than any gov in any state. They have chosen to cut back on the most high profile hfc products and demand real fruit juice instead of fruit juice substitutes - personally, the less additives in a product the better from my point of view.

"Full fat" is just an expression - I know the difference.

Pssst -- it's not as common an expression over here. I found this out when I ended up having to explain at length what the hell a "full fat Coke" was to someone -- she thought it was a new type of Coke that she hadn't heard about.wacko.gif

Prove me wrong. Go for it. Indead of spewing your usual garbage of "you don't know anything."

There is a huge difference in the way parents treat their kids today in a protective nature than there was 20 years ago. Too many are afraid their kid is going to be abducted/raped/whatever. Too many are afraid of their kids getting bumps and bruises if they play outside. Too many let them scream and yell and run around like monkeys in stores. The word "no" doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary out in public.

I will agree it's a 'minority' mind you, but it's in no way tiny... It's up there enough to be very noticeable everywhere you go.

My 'old man' attitude has been in effect since i saw the generation coming in under me and the sharp change in attitudes of kids. No respect for authority, think they can do what they want when they want because their parents let them do so... A teacher calls them out, the parent is up there the next day bitching at the teacher for telling their kid no or punishing them in some way...

It's a downward spiral that we've been on for awhile.

As I say, I've come across vending machines that only sell soda - they don't even sell bottled water.

 I don't need to prove anything to you Paul - you have your head so full of garbage gleaned from the outrage outlets there is no room for anything reasonable and rationale. I have a kid, my kid plays with other kids, goes to school with kids, is involved in sports with kids - I have met many, many parents doing all these kid involved activities and I have not come across the types of parents you believe are endemic. That means either you are full of ######, or I live in some 'special place'. Yes, what I have is anecdotal and not a product of a study but what you have is a product of neither, just sputtering outrage.

That was a right wing vending machine, with all the 'proper choices'

Somewhere, somewhere - there is a vending machine that sells wormwood absinthe alongside boxes of shotgun shells.

 Perhaps I'm just much more observant than you are.

As I said and partially agreed with you on, they are a minority, but a visable one.

The best you can do as usual is attack and tell people they are full of #######. That's ok though. We're all used to that.

I doubt that, you have zero involvement with children. The only 'visibility' such parents have is through trash media, something I choose not to visit.

I have no interest in your assessment of my abilities, real or imagined.
