Linux when I want an OS that works without major security risks, and without locking up and dying;

That's what we use for many of our radar systems software, along with VX Works.

Linux is great from a security standpoint as long as its Redhat 7 and up.

Origin is loosing the battle to Intel as well, and is trying its best to keep to its Unix roots by going to Linux. Won't be long before Origin completely drops out as well. Sad really, how MS and Intel are dominating the entire market.

Don't know if you've heard yet....AMD bought video card/chipset maker ATI. Intel has already started pressuring OEMs to immediately stop putting ATI video cards in Intel systems.

I hate Intel. I love my AMD. Unfortunately, I prefer NVidia video cards. lol

Yeah, AMD was another one that just didn't stand a fair chance. Look at all the carnage in the wake of MS and Intel, including IBM, NCR, and even Motorolla has a limited market. When it comes to software, the list is so long, such as Word Perfect, Lotus, DBase III, and even Netscape took a major hit.

What has truly made Microsoft great is their savvy at copying other developer's ideas and selling the as their own. Oh, and producing operating systems which depend on MS-software components (browsers, multimedia software, etc.) which cannot be deleted without causing major havoc. In short, they've capitalized on screwing their customers.

I've left the MS-windows fan club in the 1990s and haven't regretted it since. My OS is stable and there's a new release every two years and it will run on my computers without having to reinvest in components. I'm still using MS-Word though. I hate it, but it's currently the only wordprocessor fitting my very specialized needs.

That is exactly why I totally dislike Microsoft. If they had done it on their own, without making it impossible for any competition to have a chance, that would be different. What they did to disable Netscape, forcing people to use Explorer, what the last straw for me. So much for fair play or opportunity for competitors.
