Being salaried/Exempt sucks. I'd love to do all the off-hours and weekend work I do if I actually got paid extra for it :P

:D non exempt and loving it. biggest advantage the exempt have with my company is the cost of health care, and as i get mine thru the military i'd rather say non-exempt and keep working 150-200 hours of overtime a year :D

Again, agreed. :D

Is this what you get?

"ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Cannot group on fields selected with ''*'

Sql State: S1000

Return Code: SQL_ERROR"

Yes, we are using Exchange for email but that's not the error message. I actually don't get an error message, it's a yes/no window upon opening the document in Word and if I say 'yes' it crashes my application. (I say no. :P)

I didn't create these forms and while I'm familiar with mail merging and the various things that can go wrong, I'm not sure why it seems to go looking for SQL. The fields used are standard ones for the application.

I can post the actual message when I get to work if that would help you help me. :) Leaving in a couple anyway. :D

In our lab, we used to mainly have SGI and Sun workstations, and a couple SGI supercomputers. Now most things run on Linux, we've got a Linux Networx cluster (88 CPUs) and the SGIs are being phased out. All of the heavy lifting is being done on Linux; Windoze cannot do it.

And at home I have three PCs, two laptops, and a Linksys router. The only PC regularly running Windoze is one of the laptops (my wife's). Two PCs are PVR machines, the other PC is mine (the fastest, of course). Also, the router runs a kind of Linux.

Suck it, Bill!

Typical. I cleaned up a bunch of stuff on my laptop yesterday (stuff that came preloaded, cr@p that the previous employee didn't bother to take off before she left), and came in to see what the message was about the SQL server when I open up that Word document to ask y'all, and now the message is gone. LOL

I'm better than I thought I was!

Thanks anyway!

I'm more inclined to say "Mr. Bill, meet Mr. Hand."

lol which one is bill in that picture. I was talking more about the business side of it. I know microsoft products can be bad, but they have worked hard to get their products into all markets. Every office personal has a windows computer. That pervasiveness is whats amazing to me. :hehe:

because the only other available OS for a while was OS2 (utter ####### IMO.. moreso than Macrosuck)

and then implement monopolistic and strong arm tactics against competitors to limit their market penetration (including baseless law suits) and the intertwining of the IE into the desktop/os environment to force ppl to use that crappy security flawed app?

please.. even Win98 was released with over 2500 known bugs.. with an additional 5K plus found within first months release by actual users... business tactics are one thing.. but seriously have to admit.. the products have sucked for some time.

yes i agree the products have their issues, but the business side of it, its truly amazing. they are a giant to be reckon with. It will take alot of effort to gain market share against microsoft in desktop pc market.

Umm, 2 things, Exchange doesnt use SQL and Oracle, while prevelant on UNIX, their toolsets (Both 3rd party and their own) like SQL Plus, SQL Navigator, TOAD etc.. all run best on Windows. There are useable equivelants on other OS's but normally, thats what one sees I think.

Anyhow... Long Live MS.. makers of some of the worlds finest, easy to use software.

Mac OSX is not a next generation OS BTW.. its roots are now older than your mom.

Yeah, I checked the VB Scripts running and macros but who knows where little things hide. The SQL piece I deleted yesterday in my cleanup was to connect to some sort of topographical software I don't need. I suspect it was possibly trying to take over everything. ;)

I plan to get a Mac once I move to the US... no more Windoze for me... I plan to learn how to use Linux... that is probably one of the safest OS ever...

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

I-751 posted on 6th August 2009

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT

i think its best not to say no more windows for me, cause that is not possible. Linux is great, you learn some stuff and you should be able to pick up job fast.
