What is the biometrics letter that you received? I'm thinking about getting a printer too, cuz this is a lot of stuff! Do you know if you have to get a job letter for the petitioner of if pay stubs/slips will suffice?

You are just getting your AOS stuff ready correct? I think thats where you were at. Get a printer, you'll thank me for it. All the forms can be filled out on the pc and printed out. Makes it easier and printers are so cheap these days. You don't really have to have the letter from the employer but its nice to have. Do make sure that you have last years taxes, W2's and a few current paystubs would be nice to show that he is currently working if a letter is unavailable.

After you send all this stuff in you will get your NOA1 (receipt that they got it) and then after a few weeks to a month you'll get a letter to go in for biometrics at your local office. They fingerprint you and take your picture, thats it. It goes on your EAD and I assume your Green card. I haven't gotten mine yet, they only just cashed my check. I don't expect one for a couple weeks to a month.

Edited to add: Lawyers suck. I talked to one before I filed and he was an idiot. If your case is simple, there is no need for one. You can get all the answers to your questions here....for free. Only people that really need a lawyer is those with very complicated cases or need waivers.

It is seriously cheaper to buy a whole new printer than to buy the ink for them. The ink my printer uses is like $35 but yet you can buy a whole new printer for $29! That's sort of insane, I think. :hehe:

How do you link your timeline? LOL you can tell I'm a newbie. I came to US on a visitors visa in 2006, met my husband in 2007 (L) , we got married in 2009. I've been working and paying taxes and doing tax returns for the last two years, so I have a lawyer because I want to make sure I deal with everything I need to from the get go. She is nice, she works with Catholic charities, even though I'm not catholic  and is not charging me an arm and a leg! Looking at printers now, any ideas?

This a forum for those adjusting from K1, K2, K3, and/or K4 visas (fiance/marriage visas) only. You are adjusting status from a tourist visa; the rules and procedures are a bit different for you, although many of the aspects are the same. So that you don't get any wrong information or expectations that may not apply to you, here are some links to help you out:

This is the July filers thread for people in your situation:

and the forum for general questions about adjusting from a student/tourist/work visa:

I believe it is to talk with a real person about some issue pertaining to immigration (I have heard of people dealing with incorrect names, people having to get emergency advanced parole, and stuff like that).

Thanks!! That's obviously something useful to know!! :P

Is anyone using a lawyer or doing the stuff yourselves?

We're doing everything by ourselves. I prefer to keep the money in my pockets instead of paying a lawyer for something i know i can do by myself!

Yeah your case is more complicated then any of ours are going to be in this thread. The thread Justine linked to will be much more helpful then we could really be. Only advice I have is...if you've been here since 2006 and are doing AOS now...don't leave the country till you get that GC.

Printers....I have no idea what is really good nowadays. My printer is an overpriced, oversized beast I've had for awhile and eats ink like you wouldn't believe but it's a wide format printer so I can make HUGE prints. They all print decent text so if thats what your mainly going to do with it then it won't make much of a difference. They are handy to have...I don't think I could live without a printer. Or a pc. Or my laptop. Or my cell phone. Ipod....

I'm such a geek.

I have not received mine either, I also filled the wrong version on the form so already know I should be getting mine back soon. Its just that I have NOT, yet. I even filled G1145 for email and nothing. I called USCIS customer support who said that 'it takes 30 days for them to record this in computer' and that point I realized that talking to that person was useless as it isnt true. They also said that even when they return they record information on computer before returning and so far she could not see anything under my A-number.

Hope yours NOA comes through!

Still have not received the returned application or the notification of any kind. Wondering if I should just start creating my package again and send it off ... without waiting for the previous one to return.

Dont know why they are taking soooo long. Its been over 2 weeks!!!!

No biometrics letter today... :bonk:

Come on day 13 from the date of NOA1 and day 9 of receiving hard copy!

I am merely venting the fact that the government controls this kind of aspect of my life right now  ...

My i-485 still says, "acceptance" instead of "initial review" which is making me wonder if my case will be one of those that doesn't get updated online like those that I've read about...anyone else who has their NOA1, is your case status under initial review yet?

It wasn't an RFE it was a Rejection Notice. Since it was the I-485 application that was the issue they had to send back the whole complete package, check included. If it had been the AP or EAD application then I would have just gotten an RFE. Sad but true...I was REJECTED.

The amount was correct. Myself+ 3 children = $ABLOODYFORTUNE

Oh ok and WOW at how much you had to pay...

Is anyone using a lawyer or doing the stuff yourselves?

Nope, they suck. They don't even do it, their paralegals do it and truth be told, us on vj are better than them because we're current on our info based on experience.

It is seriously cheaper to buy a whole new printer than to buy the ink for them. The ink my printer uses is like $35 but yet you can buy a whole new printer for $29! That's sort of insane, I think. :hehe:

Sigh, printers are freaking cheap, but not the ink. Before you buy the printer, research the cost of ink. Which is usually ridiculously more than the printer itself. I print at my local college or library...
