In all seriousness, the "bad words" on TV have only happened fairly recently. Even in the early '90s the worst it got was Married with Children and they were relatively blase by today's standards. If you take it all the way back to Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy in the '80s, it wasn't like society rushed out to say the things they were saying in everyday conversation. Plus, they didn't say bad things on TV, only on movies or cable.

I seem to remember people using bad language quite a bit back then, even if it wasn't on TV.

What you're seeing recently is more of a reflection of reality on TV. Many of today's shows aren't scripted (reality TV) or they're intentionally scripted to sound like "normal" people. The cable channels like FX and Comedy Central push the envelope by allowing colorful language to be said on TV but even that isn't shown at a time when "impressionable" people could watch.

Where you get your crossover is not form language, but from content. When so many people watch Jerry Springer that they begin to think that type of behavior and life is not only acceptable, but cool, you start to see society change a little bit. Couple that with anything on MTV, BET, Bravo, Lifetime, etc., and you start to see why society has now found it acceptable to be "bad."

Al Bundy was no saint, but at the end of the day he was a decent working man who took care of his family. Where'd that go from TV? Oh, that's right. Dad's don't do that anymore!

Foul language is what we make it. We make too big of a deal about "bad words" when they are just words.

I mean you sound like an idiot if you just say; "yous a dumb sum ###### mother fvcker and i don't like your mother fvckin' #### because mother fvcker yous stupid." and that can be argued as being bad form, but just to use the words in general shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Some people manage to have the same effect while not using profane language.

Believe it or not, products we see on TV are actually marketed to that audience. Product marketing pays the bills. Paying bills is what determines what's on TV. They don't have to be my crew or your crew, but they're out there and it is happening.

What I'm saying is shows like this on TV have now glorified this lifestyle to the point that some who view it could choose to live like this now instead of a more beneficial lifestyle.

I'm confused. Does what I see on TV affect whether I use profanity? Yes! Absolutely. I am little old school when it comes to polite language and I find what I see and hear on television personally affronting.

TV has not turned me into a polyamorist, however. It was my husband who did that!
