I don't think you can qualify for unemployment in most states if you quit a job to go back to school. You can't quit and you can't be fired for cause. Unemployment is intened to help people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. It is intended to help you until you can find another job.

If your husband really wants to return to school he should talk to the counselors at the school about what help is available. They have grant programs, student loans and scholarships available to help people.

If he really wants to go back to school he can begin by taking classes at night, or on the weekends. Many people discover that they really don't have the ambition to stay the course. It would be a shame to disrupt his family, income and medical insurance because he had a bad day at work. If he doesn't like his job he should look for a better one.

Many states allow you to go to school while you collect unemployment after a layoff. It benefits everyone in the end.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
