In response to my letter to Assistant Secretary of State Johnny Carson, I received the following response sent to me by Public Inquiries Division, Visa Services:

I am writing in response to your June 16, 2010 letter to Assistant Secretary of State Johnny Carson regarding delays in immigrant visa appointment scheduling at the U.W. Embassy in Accra, Ghana. Your letter was forwarded to the Visa Office, Public Inquiries division for our response.

The majority of foreign nationals immigrate to the United States through immigrant petitions filed by sponsoring relatives or employers. A third way of immigration is through the congressionally-mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery Program that makes available worldwide 50,000 diversity visas (DV) annually. The general increase in family and employment petitions for Ghanaian immigrants and the high volume of successful DV applicants has created a very large backlog of immigrant visa cases at the Embassy in Accra. For DV-2010, Ghana was the top country in the world for DV winners. Because visa must be issued to these applicants before September 30, 2010, they will account for the many of the interview appointments for the next few months.

I hope this information may be helpful and I regret my response cannot be more encouraging at this time.

Sincerely,

Harold G. Woodley

It is a relief to have an answer. I feel more optimistic about the possibility of my husband getting an interview next year instead of 2012. Now we just need that NOA2 and finish up at the NVC. Hoping all of that will be done by October. For now, I am going back to sleep until we here from the USCIS! But I will keep praying.

WIshing you the best of luck! Hopefully every visa type will start to hear soon. Why NVC cant start scheduling the others who are already approved doesnt make sense- but maybe some will hear VERY soon! or at least october... which isnt too far out....

What I still don't understand why certain visa's are faster. My case has been completed since Jan. 5 2010 and still no interview yet there has been people who started after me, case completed after me, and still have an interview before me. Does anyone know how they schedule the visa's? Thought it was like a first come first servce basis type of thing, who ever is done first gets interview first.

There are people from Nov/Dec 2009 with your type of visa that are still waiting. Very few IR/CR-1s if not none have been scheduled this year. K-1s are considered non-immigrant visas so they are in a different mix of things i believe that is why they are being scheudled and the immigrant ones have seen nothing. I am no expert but its just a thought.

Who do you know who has an interview before you with a case complete after you- if it is from a different visa catagory you cant put that in the same timeline....

Be patient! We are all missing our loved one. Some day it will come!
