Where to get Police Certificates!!!

Hi, everyone, I'm new here. Because I read some member's post, they didn't get the right Police Certificate, so does anyone know where can I get the exactly what NVC want? or which website I can check for the local police office? BTW, I'm in Toronto. Any information will be a great help. Thx everyone!

Hi,

I am moving your post from the CR1/IR1 forum to the Canada forum, as it is country specific.

I'm sure someone who got their police check in Toronto can tell you exactly where they went, but basically you have two choices - police service or RCMP.

Doesn't matter which one you choose, just make sure that the certificate will state that the: Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant’s name and date of birth.

If you have ever been convicted of a crime, you will need to obtain a full fingerprint version of the check from the RCMP, if not then the name check will suffice. If you have ever lived in another country for more than 12 months, since the age of 16, you will require a police check from that country as well.

Thanks a lot, Trailmix. I just know an International Fingerprinting Services office close me and they do the police certificates from RCMP. My concern is: Is that ok if I do a full fingerprint version of the check from the RCMP if I have never got any issue with the police? It is gonna be more safty in case NVC asking for it, or just superfluous?

Definately superfluous, you only need the name check, for sure.

You can probably walk in to any police station in Toronto and request the name check.

I went to my local OPP station and requested a name check.

Visa people accepted it with no problems.

- IF you have a criminal record - you will have to get the fingerprint type done with the RCMP.

I used to teach in Ontario and they require a full fingerprint check for most school boards. I submitted a copy of that (since I already had it) to NVC even though I didn't have a record. Without issue it was accepted. However, it was 9 months old by the time I had my interview so I had a name check done and it was also accepted at the time of the interivew.

Hey guys, sorry to bring up an old thread... I am just unsure of wether I need to apply for the 'police records check' or 'criminal records check'... info from Montreal simply states 'police certificates'. Since I am never been arrested or been in any legal trouble, the police records check is what I want correct? That will give the "Canadian police Information Centre (CPIC)" I am looking for?

(and yes I know it takes a while to get it and my interview is soon but my uncle is on the force and can get it for me while I wait tomorrow afternoon). However I have been told RCMP do it the same day as well.

This is what you need, (from NVC site)

Police Records

Inside Canada: Applicants who are physically present in Canada should contact their local police service or Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office regarding criminal record check procedures. Applicants may obtain a certificate of no conviction issued by any Canadian police service so long as it notes that Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant’s name and date of birth. Applicants should ensure that the search includes all names that they have previously used, including maiden names, prior married names, or names used before Canadian naturalization. (Note: Because records checks based on name and date of birth only are sometimes less thorough than those based on fingerprints, U.S. diplomatic offices reserve the right to request that certain applicants obtain fingerprint-based searches from the RCMP.)
